Dreamforge Leviathan Crusader - the journey begins

You may have read on here before, how I have recently been painting the Dreamforge miniatures.
You can read below where I rave about the brilliant 28mm Stormtroopers, which are probably the best sci-fi 28mm soldiers on the market - rivalling the big boys like Games Workshop, that's for sure!
Well at the same time I bought the Stormtroopers, I also bought the Leviathan Crudsader, and a Leviathan it is! The kits is LARGE. Read on

Modelling Inspiration? Mercenary Pilots

This video inspired me somewhat in my next project - the DreamForge Leviathan.
I've been struggling to work out a formalised military look to it, I suppose in some ways inspired by Gundam, but this clip I saw this morning brought back another inspiration which could be far more interesting.

Area 88 was a manga from the late 70s to the mid-80s and a short anime series in 2005.
The basic plot if around mercenary pilots in a fictional middle eastern protectorate.

The role of mercenaries, or Private Military Contractors, is of course controversial - being paid to kill people doesn't seem like the most wholesome vocation, but in reality it's a very old profession, and if handled properly and policed, it can be very effective, sometimes saving the population from an extended war when professionals can just come in and finish it.

In some conflict zones, the UN themselves use PMCs for rescue missions, policing duties or even security for the UN personnel.

It's been handled badly in recent conflicts where the US have used PMCs, but as I said earlier, professional soldiering has been for hire for centuries.

So... .(long story short) I'm going to paint up the DreamForge Leviathan as if it's being piloted by a mercenary. It can open up the paint schemes and markings and doesn't need to conform to the troops around it.

titanfall - the shining star of e3?

It was probably the most eagerly anticipated E3 for some years, an mostly to see if Microsoft could make the XBox One tempting to gamers.
They'd shown us TV, movies and all the other bits - but actual games was going to be where the war would be won or lost.
... and from seemingly nowhere (except for those who'd seen sneak peaks) came Titanfall.
Am I excited?

Guarding the globe - a superhero team that's not just naff!

I don't know about you, but i'm not a huge fan of superhero comics - I mean all that lycra and muscles and silly storylines... not for me.

THEN, some years ago I discovered (in the $10 TP bin at my local comic shop actually) a TP called Wildguard. It was a take on superheroes I hadn't seen before with cracking art by a guy called Todd Nauck - and there it began - it was my gateway into superhero comics.

I'm not afraid to say I love cartoons - Hell I have a section devoted to it - BUT once you see Gundam you can appreciate cartoons for adults!

So Gundam came to me via the local Asian DVD store, and this is how Gundam MS 08th Team came to me and my love for Universal Century was truly born.

New Space Marine model completed

Over the past decade, Games Workshop has messed around with the cannon of their Space marine Chapters in a massive way - this has of course alienated the original fans who dutifully painted up their armies to match what they were told they were meant to look like.
Well in Codex: Dark Angels 4th Edition, GW gave a shout out to the original Dark Angels fans by creating the Consecrators who wore the original colour scheme and an altered Chapter symbol.
So, with this in mind, and my recent interest in painting up some Rogue Trader era minis, this seemed the perfect subject. Check it out...
