Khorne has to be the best of the Chaos Gods. Sure you don't get the hot troops like Slaanesh and you can't have a head like a chicken as Tzeentch can, and you have to bath more than Nurgle does - but apart from all that, Khorne rocks the warp! Blood For The Blood God Skulls For The Throne of Khorne But I digress, this issue of White Dwarf sees the launch of the new combi-kit for the Bloodthirster of Khorne and from what we see in this issue, it's very impressive! Mainly it's a combination of old school and new school looks plus some very detailed and impressive painting by the GW team. Look closely and you will see what I mean. On that, the quality-sporadic Paint Splatter section this week is actually informative! There's also the pre-order for the Khorne Red spray, a pair of audio dramas, a Harlequins story, and a fair bit of info on the background of Khorne and his forces. Here's the first of the Vexillas which will be carried by each of my War Hounds squads. What do you think? Do you use the Vexilla in combat? Have you found it handy? What's the best way to use it?
Games Workshop's You Tube Channel, Warhammer TV has just put up the official teaser to the Chaos installment of WHFB End Times and it confirms a few rumours along the way! Not only do we get a date (left) - not a real surprise - but we also get confirmation of some of the images we have seen leaked so far (right).
In this image was see Archan (one can assume) mounted on a horse surrounded by Chaos Marauders (?) and what look like the new Khorne guys that have been sighted by some. Also in the background notice the Bloodthirster set to dominate sales over the next few weeks. With the shots of Marauders (?) and not Chaos Warriors, could we see Marauders being the flavour of the month and not the ubiquitous Chaos Warriors, so long the poster boys for Chaos? new Marauder kit is desperately needed, so who knows? Also interesting to see in the video that it looks like Chaos facing off against the High Elves exclusively. There didn't seem to be allied units, Elven or Human, amongst that force, so someone is in for a pounding! Building a 30K force (or even a 40K force) can be really daunting when you first start out. Most of us start by making some models we like and look good and kind of fit into what we think fits into a squad. Having gone through The Horus Heresy books to look at the Legion rules, there is a lot to read and a lot to absorb - again very daunting! So while surfing the net to find a definitive answer to how my War Hounds Legion should be armed and structured, I found probably the best written and straight forward article on making a 30k Legion. The article is from a really unlikely source too: 1d4chan! I'm not really an 1d4chan guy, but do yourself a favour and have a look over the way this article is written. It goes through each unit, the best things to include, or not, and why. It takes into consideration points, play value and in really plain straight forward language - it's so straight forward to get to grips with! I found this SO handy and frankly having looked around the internet and through those big glossy pages of the Horus Heresy books, I would be floundering still if not for it. Another discovery, thanks to regular contributor Rob, is BattleScribe - a free App that makes it so easy to plan your squads with the use of drop down options and adds the points up for you. It then gives it to you in a standard format for easy reading which includes the stats for each unit. I ended up using the two in conjunction with each other and had a blast! I've now divided the miniatures I had painted up into their new squads and worked out what I need to paint AND started applying squad decals to the right miniatures! Anyway - give the article a 5 minute look over and you'll be hooked!
Hope this helps design your force and allow you to build your army quicker and with purpose.
I shake the bottle thoroughly, I apply it with a brush that has no water in it and still this!
Maybe it's an issue with this Shade and it's just crappy. If so what should I use instead? I generally use a watered down paint to shade, but this seemed like such a good idea... Brains trust, you're my only hope!!

Did you pre-order and received yours in the past few days? What are your plans for these new miniatures. Will they enter the world of 40K, Mantic or maybe stand on their own to support a Leviathan or existing battle force? Forge World have previewed their upcoming Storm Bird drop ship for their Horus heresy line - and feelings are very very mixed! I hear some who love the idea of a bigger Thunderhawk - but then again some remember the iconic image from White Dwarf many years ago and this is what they had hoped for. Classic White Dwarf Storm Bird (above) vs. New Forge World (below)
We got some really nice feedback on the last War Hounds Legion Sicarn teaser image, so with the Sicaran only a day or so away from completion, I thought another teaser image you with might be in order.
If you've been following the War Hounds Legion saga, you'll be aware of the sheer lack of reference material on them. They were quite a different Legion before they were reunited with their Primarch Angron, so World Eaters iconography isn't always appropriate! The War Hounds were men of Terra, loyal to the Emperor, the Great Crusade and the Wars of Unification before that. So icons, honours and markings had to come out of brain. Stay tuned as I hope to have this unveiled in the next day or so...

If you've been patiently following the progress of my War Hounds Legion Sicaran tank - well I have some good news... it is nearly done. Having all but finished the body and today the weapons, this is on track for being completed in the next few days. If you haven't made a Sicaran before, let me tell you there is a lot of work in it - but considering it's size and killing power you'd want to take it steadily anyway.
With just the super-detailing to go here's hoping I don't totally stuff it! |
