Looking through the video that accompanies the release of the Taurox and in one of the shots - none-too-subtly is this unit which looks like the Cadian Command Squad - but isn't that banner new?
Maybe we're getting a re-boxed or re-tooled version to go with the new Astra Militarum releases?
This Sunday (U.K. time) sees the opening of the event that makes every international Games Workshop and Forge World fan the world over totally jealous; FORGE WORLD OPEN DAY 2014 and this year there are some... interesting... new products. The potential of WH40K mugs and t-shirts is totally exciting - the images we see are, however, not so cool. In fact the quality of the shirt prints looks pretty poor which is a huge shame because we would all LOVE to own/ wear/ fall in love with/ marry these items. Did I go to far? These are some cool designs - I mean the WH40K universe is so open to merchandising - but unless the real ones are better quality than these versions, this great idea may fail before it began. Similarly, the t-shirts seem like a brilliant idea, but apart from the Sons of Horus and the Death Guard ones, the rest look like pretty low-rent quality prints. Oh Forge World - these could be so cool. Please either show us better images or pump up the quality!
This morning Games Workshop buried this sneak peak at the upcoming Imperial Guard releases on their website. No word on the name change to "Astra Militarum", just a broken up shot of what looks like a Militarum Scions trooper. Interesting to see the helmet on the right hand side of the video. Although there has only been a glimpse of it in the one leaked image, maybe we will have enough to equip a full squad!? A few things to notice from the fleeting glances at the video: - The Icon is not the usual Imperial Guard-style. It has a lion's head on wings but no actual aquila. Odd for the what is meant to be the Emperor's fist. - The weapon seems to be an amped up Lasgun with power cables running from it. - Notice also the breastplate and armoured gauntlets as seen in this leaked image. So the date says this weekend - White Dwarf may be about to get very interesting.
As usual, we'll have a full look at the release previews first thing on Saturday morning AUS time and Friday night US & UK time. In recent times, Games Workshop have been moving towards both Codex and supplements almost exclusively digitally, either through iTunes or via the Black Library portal.
As a publication that can need updates, the idea of digital publications make sense - no more errata published on websites so you have to print it out and stick in the back of the book. It seems like a great idea, but would you take a tablet with you everywhere you go? What if you don't have a tablet? The digital Codex don't work on Android phones for example. At least with a book you can bookmark it, take notes and flick through the pretty pictures. But how do we get the best of both worlds? That is for greater minds than I! So which do you prefer; the digital version that can be updated or the book with the fragrant pages and pretty pictures?
According to a reliable source inside Games Workshop Australia, the Limited Edition Void Shield Generator is already SOLD OUT!
If you were hoping to get one outside of Australia, do so now as it seems these are going fast!! Not on the heels of the Warmaster Horus preorder going up on Forge World, they've done it to us again and produced a heart-stoppingly good video for the next release in the Horus Heresy books line. Have a look at this video below and then join us after the jump for some observations...
The Games Workshop Imperial Titan is, as I have said before, a great kit. Beautifully detailed and great fun to build, but looking through the current colour schemes I couldn't really find anything I liked - but too garish really. So in these early Work In Progress shots I wanted to show you the Steampunk influences I've been going for. The problem with Steampunk is that you can go overboard and it just looks messy. I've kept the palette really limited and dulled down any colour as much as I can without it looking too muddy. There's still a lot to do, but this is it so far! If you have any colour scheme suggestions, feel free to share! Stay tuned for more on this. It's been a pretty quick build, but I want to do the paint job service by not stuffing it up, so once I have the idea in mind of what colour scheme I can be full steam ahead!
So I've just started using Nuln Oil for the very first time. You may say "You idiot - I've been using that for ages..." and you know what, you'd be right! I should give a little bit of background on how I paint, as Beardy Hammer would suggest, it goes way back to the 80's, so in that time there have been a lot of GW paint products come and go, in fact I still use many of my old paints. My first GW paints were the Citadel Colour Space Marine Paint set from 1989, then I went on to get all the sets including the fledgling Inks set back in the day. The paints were very different and quality sporadic (the Shining Gold was still the best gold GW ever produced mind you!) with some pretty simple shades. I didn't much like the inks, so tended to mix the paints and make my own washes (the Terracota colour in the Space Marine set was perfect for skin) and I've pretty much been doing that since, changing it slightly to using a leaching and technique over the past 8 years to get an aged look etc. Suffice to say I wasn't into inks, apart from the black to thin down the black for black lining (does anyone black line anymore?). So I was very very skeptical about Nuln Oil until i saw it in the Imperial Knight video and decided to give it a go. Well butter me up and call me toast...
In a really disappointing turn of events, those eagerly awaiting their copy of the awesome Titanfall Collectors Edition didn't receive their super-expensive set today. They did however receive this email from the Titanfall online store giving them a free key to download the game. Pity the download is 50GB! Are you still waiting for your Titanfall Collectors Edition or did you get yours today?
If you did get it - how awesome is the statue? Let us know! If you're like me and you're still waiting for your Titanfall to turn up, then why not try out the retro goodness of the 1980's with three 8-bit games all reborn with a Titanfall feel... and for free! www.titanfallarcade.com is open now to play these surprisingly challenging games, with some really great quality audio suped-up 8-bit stereo sound. Check out the screen shots below for more
Despite the tight March 13th embargo for Australian customers of Titanfall, the game and it's universe still continue to inspire. The US release has been hit with a number of PC and XBox One issues, which we can only hope get fixed by release date here...! Until then - enjoy this awesome video. Thanks to a BoLS Lounge user we have some shots of the new Astra Militarum Ogryns. It's again a dual set - Some Heavy Infantry Ogryns with riot sheilds and the traditional Rogue Trader-looking brutes. The heavy versions with riot shields are conspicuous for their heavy plate with tank track 'skirts', shields and rocket launcher weapons. These guys would make a great addition to a Skitarri/ Adeptus Mechanicus force. The second option in the kit is the traditional Ogryns from Rogue Trader-era. Ripper guns, ugly heads, muscles... bit like Catachans on steroids - well more steroids than regular Catachans anyway...
What do you think??
As you may be aware, last year's Australian Gunpla 2013 was my first, and I did okay - well I placed!
This year I'm at it again, this time with the very detailed Master Grade 1/100 MG MS-06S Char's Zaku II Version. 2.0. I mean who doesn't love a Zaku?! To keep up to date with the progress, check out the Race to Gundam 2014 section of this site |
