NOT FailCast Myrmidon Destructors Review

It's hard to argue that Forge World's release of the Mechanicum line hasn't been a huge success
The Mechanicum have been a long time fan favourite, and to be able to build a Heresy-era Mechanicum army has been exciting for lots of players.
Well today I have for you the brand new NOT FailCast version of the Forge World Mechanicum Myrmidon Destructors - the heavy hitters of the Mechanicum army.
First thing you notice is the size of these guys! I honestly expected Marine-sized, but these guys would dominate any battlefield - more like Chaos Marine Obliterators in mass. So how do good are the NOT FailCast versions?+ + More after the jump + +

White Dwarf Issue #22 Review

Just when you thought you'd seen all the Orks Games Workshop could throw at you here comes the next releases fresh from the impending WAAAAGH!
We get Meganobz, a Big Mek in Mega Armour, 2 x vehicle-based boxes and a Codex supplement - that's actually quite a bit when you look at it and therefore it takes up a fair bit of this week's White Dwarf - but that's not all we get (thankfully).
Yes the issue has a lot of Green Skins, but there's also an interview with author David Annandale, Phil Kelly chats about the Night Lords (out of left field, right?), and we get a better look at more of the participants in this year's Armies on Parade as the entrants build their armies.

Big NOT FailCast Haul - Reviews Incoming!

NOT FailCast

A week of so back, we had a discussion about NOT Failcast and recasting in general. I've tested their stuff before and found it to be good, so I thought a wider look at what they have might be in order.
I hear lots of people using recasters in China and as 3D printing increases, the quality of some of the Chinese miniatures seems to be dropping.
So yesterday I received this rather sizeable order (left) of older and newer NOT Fail Cast miniatures so we could get a good sample.

Keep your eyes peeled, because over the next few weeks we'll have an in depth look at some of their miniatures - the quality of the moulds, the quality of the plastic and overall value.

Orcs Must Die is Back!

Games Workshop might be rolling out the Orks, but the folks at Robot Entertainment are rolling out their Orcs, and I have to say - the latter is more exciting!
Orcs Must Die! Unchained is now in Closed Beta - so if you like setting traps and smashing green skins - then this is the game for you.

There are some pretty obvious changes from the last two games in the series, mainly in the amount of heroes available, but this does look quite massive and hectic.
Go register for the Beta now and start smashing green skins soon!

Lord Inquisitor Teaser Goes Online - WOW!!

Fans have eagerly awaited it, and now it's here - the first fully rendered teaser to the upcoming unofficial fan-made Warhammer 40K film Lord Inquisitor.
You'd have to say, this is very impressive; the way they have mixed the iconography and dark look of the universe with the archaic technology of the far future. The Servitor is especially dark and such a contrast to the massive looking marine!

White Dwarf Issue #21 Review - Looted Battlewagons & Orks!

It's week 4.221 of the Ork Releases and they still keep coming... Do I sound jaded? Well I must admit I am.
This has been an odd release. It lacks the punch of the Knight, the revelations of the Astra Militarum, but it does lack the sheer monotony of the Dwarves, so Games Workshop has at least got that right!
It wasn't until I was reading the Designers notes in this issue that I realised maybe what was missing from this release for me - singularity of vision.
"The all new Ork releases you're seen over the past few weeks were part of a concerted project involving lots of people" - Gavin Newton.
And I think that's it; the releases have seemed less like a "WAAARGH" and more like a "knock knock, can we come in?"... which is a shame because it came just as White Dwarf seemed to be hitting it's strides.

Rangers Project: Salamander Mech Release Infantry Preview

Rangers Project: Salamander Mech is something we've been updating pretty regularly since we backed it very early on in it's Kickstarter and today they released some images of their accompanying 15mm - 1/100 scale infantry Add On... and they look SWEET!
Okay a bit blurry, but really detailed and cool. These are the same scale the Bandai Gundam figures and from what the blurry pictures are showing us so far - they are really nicely detailed!
Infantry Masters will be shipped out for production within a few days, but it will likely be several weeks before pewter casts come in quantity. Here's hoping we see them soon.

The WH40K Librarium Edition is... TINY!!

Last weekend, Games Workshop surprised many of us by releasing their Warhammer 40K Librarium Edition in White Dwarf #20 and I admit it - I thought it was a great idea - even if they were smaller!
But today they released images of this set. Now a rulebook this big might be okay - in fact it's bloody handy if you're tucking it into your bag - but the Codexes in this size?
How will we see the pictures?
Part of the joy of a Codex are the great pieces of art that set the scene, spark our imaginations and then there's the miniature showcases to inspire - this mini format doesn't lend itself to those books!
I'm not going to harp on the price, but... THE PRICE!
Look, I think I retract my previous statement about this being a good idea.
If they release a mini stand-alone Rules I'd buy it, but shrunken Codexes? Not for me and from what I'm seeing online, not for a lot of people.
What do you think? A good idea or an expensive tactical error for GW when they least need it?

Dream Forge Improve Their Female Stormtroopers

A few weeks back we brought you some images of the new female Stormtroopers from Dream Forge Games. At the time we raised some reservations about the dimensions on the troops as they looked a tad stocky and not different enough from the male Stormtroopers. And true to form, Dream Forge have listened to their fans and the community at large and made some changes.
You would know by now what big fans we are of Dream Forge we are - from their amazing Leviathan, to the delicate and intricately detailed Stormtroopers - so we are really pleased that they have taken the time and energy to look into re-sculpting these guys ...well, girls actually!
They not only made the head smaller, but also the shoulder pads and importantly gave the female Storm Troopers a slightly smaller waist - but not in a Bratz kind of way!
In a very smart move they left the rest of the armour bulky to show the standard thigh and forearm armour from the other Stormtroopers.
So what do you think? The change is subtle, but really makes a difference. Has this sold you on the female Stormtroopers from Dream Forge?

Are NOT Fail cast The New One-Stop Shop For recasters?

With the prices of Games Workshop miniatures continuing to climb - especially if you're in Australia - many people seem to be turning to recasters in Asia to build their armies.
You may have seen our recent tests on NOT Fail Cast miniatures, which were all very nice and it seems NOT Fail Cast are coming on in leaps and bounds, stocking a huge range of products.
So are NOT Fail Cast the new one-stop shop if you buy recast miniatures?
With cheap 3D printers, some people are reporting that the stock from China is low quality - so would you use a regular supplier like NOT Fail Cast?

Not only are they stocking current models from Games Workshop, Forge World, other suppliers, their own miniatures and also plastic/resin copies of older metal figures including their recent release of a Reaver Titan in Epic scale - a miniature not available for many many years!

Recasting seems to be on the rise and I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on recasting and your experiences with the Chinese guys or NOT Fail Cast.

White Dwarf Issue #20 - More Orks & 40K Librarium Edition...

As the galaxy burns, the Ork WAAAARGH begins to crush humanity under it's fierce tread. That being said - is it me or is anyone else underwhelmed?
If so, this issue of White Dwarf issue is FULL of Orks! This week it's some artillery and a Big Mek, neither horribly exciting, especially as they thing that really needed yup dating for the Orks range were the Nobz.
None the less, we get a pretty good look at the new additions to the Ork WAAAAGH machine, plus a look at the 40K Librarium Edition an essential for any 40K collector or someone looking to collect - well everything!
It's well worth a look I think.

Amazing Pop-Up Miniature Terrain Kickstarter

Scenery can be a pain to store, but today while I was wandering through Kickstarter, this project from Stonehaven Miniatures really pipped my interest; collapsible paper scenery. Not only is this a good idea, but the designs are really cool and with the shaped base, will interlock well.
The product itself is cheap - only real drawback to this Kickstarter is the international postage.
At $25 for what is really just card, it's a bit much, but if you're local - the postage is free! Lucky you.

Is this worth backing? With cheaper international postage, yes! But at this stage I'm not sure...

New Imperial Guard Troops from Victoria Miniatures

They're here!
The much awaited resin version of the Victoria Miniatures Arcadian Rifles are now in stock and shipping.
This is the Male version - the Female ones are on the way - of this modular 10-man set contains enough parts to build your own all male Arcadian squad, including fusion gun specialist and sergeant.
Not only are these great looking resin miniatures highly detailed, shipping worldwide is free!
If you haven't bought Victoria Miniatures before, I can highly recommend them. Her new resin miniatures even surpasses the white metal versions.
These would make an awesome addition to any Imperial Guard force or even as the backbone of a new force.

More War Hounds Reinforcements!

Earlier this week I posted one of the newer War Hounds Space Marines I'd finished - well today there is another one! This guy has a few new features not seen on any of the other War Hounds so far, so there was a bit of tinkering to make everything fit, but he came out just as I'd hoped - menacing!

It's been a little while, but after some experiments with washes and the Macragge Blue spray, continuing to do the War Hounds Space Marines doesn't seem as much of a chore.

White Dwarf Issue #19 Review - Plus Ork nobz in a 'Naut!

The launch of Warhammer 40,000 7th Edition 2 weeks ago had lead to a flurry of rumours about a boxed set of Orks vs. [insert race here] to coincide with release. It didn't happen. What did happen was some new Ork miniatures. Last week it was the ugliest mech known to man and woman kind - this week it's some new Orks with very big modular guns! Flash Gitz (or Freebooterz really) are the new thing and the amount of work put into them is really quite awesome. White Dwarf spends a lot of time on Orks this week, and certainly the amount of work that went into these miniatures seems to deserve it.
There are other things this issue - Jervis Johnson returning to his roots and ripping games systems apart for fun (I mean he really is an uber-nerd in that regard, and good on him frankly!) some Knight vs. Ork mech action and... well actually that's it!

Warhammer: Visions #5... Pretty Pictures Everywhere!

The first Saturday of the month and it's Warhammer: Visions day - Issue #5. The magazine/ book has had a few changes on the way and there is definitely more things to look at than in previous issues, but Warhammer: Visions has a long way to go before it really becomes something the community can entirely embrace.
Some standout features this month include some great kitbashes on the Hellbrute, a beautiful Ogre army and of course Elves and trees - a shite-tonne of trees! Pity there's nothing new on the tree front, but still there are still lots of people out there who need inspiration on their Treeman (me being one of them) so this might be helpful...
There's also some nice shots of the new Forge World releases painted up! Good forum to showcase them too!

Wrath of Kings Update with Awesome New Images

The Wrath of Kings Kickstarter has to be one of the most successful miniature Kickstarters so far, raising $718,152, well over the $50,000 needed to get this project running!
If you jumped on board early it was excellent value - especially if you took out the deal with the whole bundle; over one hundred miniatures in all!
Well today they have released some new images of the upcoming miniatures - this time the Carcharian Frenzies (formerly the Deepmen Frenzies). They look just amazing!

There's still no street date on these minis - but so far they are looking very very good!
Did you back the Kickstarter? It was a bit fiddly to understand, but once you were in it was too easy to just order more minis. I wish I'd done the whole line - as it is I nearly spent that much anyway!
