NOT Failcast Review - Space Wolf Champion Arjac Rockfist

With the release of the latest incarnation of the Space Wolves it seems timely to bring you a review of NOT Failacst's version of Logan Grimnar's personal champion, Arjac Rockfist. Having impressed the Great Wolf with his prodigious strength, heroic deeds, fortitude and armed with his trusty weapons Foehammer and the Anvil Shield, Arjac Rockfist as earned his place in Grimnar's Wolf Guard a dozen times over.
Thinking of adding him to your Space Wolf force or have a wicked conversion idea? NOT Failcast might be the way to go!
You may have seen our reviews of NOT Failcast's figures before as they have such a huge range of miniatures on offer.
So, how does the much cheaper version of Arjac Rockfist stack up and will he be the addition to your army you're after?

White Dwarf #31 Review - Horsemen of the Apocalypse

If this Nagash thing hasn't hit like Sharknado, I don't know what has!
My local store had one Nagash model left after being open for 15 minutes and a tonne of orders behind the counter, so it's no surprise what dominates this weeks White Dwarf.
Last week it was the man himself, this week it's his minions, The Mortarchs and some army boxed sets full of all sorts of undead-ery!
With all this skeleton-heavy content, there's also a new spray colour which will hopefully make building your force a breeze.
In non-Nagash news, there's a tutorial on photographing your minis and... well that's about it. You'd better be in to Nagash of his Mortarchs to get into this issue!

DreamForge Valkir Heavy Troopers & the Eisenkern StuG

Dreamforge have released further images of their upcoming Valkir Heavy Weapons Troopers and a bit of a surprise - another vehicle to add post the expected Eisenkern APC very soon.
The Eisenkern Stormtroopers are brilliant models and these previews show how great the Valkir look too.

The Valkir Heavy Weapons Trooper is certainly a big step up from the Stormtroopers range already available.

This machine gun looks like an amped up SCAR! I bet this powerful stance will be popular with modellers!

This weapon is reminiscent of the Sand Trooper's weapon from Star Wars. I wonder...

But it's not just awesome heavily armoured dudes with big guns - there's a new vehicle on the way... in the shape of a STuG, the close combat tank killer made famous in WWII. This one looks to be a hovercraft of some sort. If the APC is ever released, the forces of Eisenkern are looking good!

I can't wait to see what people come up with in terms of colour schemes for these guys! The models look brilliant - so here's hoping some justice can be done to their amazing design!

White Dwarf #30 Review - Nagash Unites Vamps & Tomb Kings

What is this Warhammer you speak of? Well having White Dwarf being almost entirely dominated by WH40K since it's relaunch (apart from those 400 weeks of Dwarves releases) one is left to ask if Warhammer is being prioritised in any way by Games Workshop.
Well - hush your mouth, because there's a shakeup on the way in the shape of a rather expensive Necromancer!
Nagash is here and if you believe the hype - you are screwed!
But it's not just The End of Times this week, there's also the pre-order for the Talon of Horus and... well I'll be honest, this is really all about Nagash and boy do they stress that things are changing! It's not subtle - they hit you in the face with it over and over again.
As an aside - this may be the first cover they've used Instagram or the like on. Have a look at the model and compare to the cover. Totally Hipster Nagash!

Horus Heresy: Drop Pod Assault Marine Showcase

The folks over at Complex Games have released a showcase on the Tactical Space Marine for their upcoming Horus Heresy: Drop Pod Assault game. It's looking like a simplified Dawn of War, but considering it's for a phone or tablet, I guess that makes sense!

The video itself is worth a look for some pretty cool shots of animated MKII Death Guard!

BREAKING: Onslaught Miniatures to start 15mm Production!

This morning Onslaught Miniatures announced on their Facebook page that they will be doing a limited run of 15mm miniatures.

Due to popular demand - we have decided to do a trial run of 15mm scale miniatures. The first minis to go 15mm will be the upcoming Hellborn infantry - Cultists, Zealots, Destroyers, Mutants, and Gore Maidens. If these models sell well enough, we will continue to provide additional lines at this new scale. Stay tuned for updates!

A preview image was put up this morning, then taken down, so it will be interesting to see what we get and when!

Personally I'm hoping to see their Dark Eldar/ Stygian range in 15mm - then again there's also this... their Tau/ Okami Technocracy Combine range... drool!

Messy Hobby Area? IKEA May Have A Very Sturdy Answer!

Fight Club is a great film, but maybe it's hatred of IKEA was misplaced, because if you have a hobby area you know how messy it can get. Brushes, boxes, glue and spray cans seem to breed, and if you're using your dining table... well you're not going to be too popular!
So when I was in IKEA a while back, I noticed their Raskog Kitchen Trolley and instantly saw a new use for it - a handy place story all of that stuff!
Not only is it handy and reasonably light, you can attack the legs to make it really portable AND it's pretty cheap!
So what does it fit and is this for you?

White Dwarf Issue #29 Review - Grey Knights Fully Revealed

In the scheme of things, the release of the new Grey Knights Codex has been greeted with either muted tones or apathy - it really hasn't set the world on fire, especially after the release of the Space Wolves over the past few weeks..
Maybe Games Workshop should have had a fantasy release and given WH40K players a chance to breath?
As it is, the releases are generally just repackaging older sets, but there's a little bit of value in there if you search; the Strike Squad for example - you save $10 by buying the new 10 man box instead of the old 2 x 5 man boxes.. And you were skeptical... (sarcasm)
But i's not just Grey Knights this week - there's also the next installment of Sanctus Reach, Hour of the Wolf, and yet more Space Wolves...

Companies of Fenris Painting Guide Review

So you've been painting space marines for a while now, so why the Hell would you need a How To Paint Space Wolves book? Well, my very confident friend, this book is actually very very good.
Some years back GW did a few of these style of books - How To Paint Space Marines is one, but this one does something quite interesting - it mixes that style of book with a Codex and also gives you background on characters and why the markings are like they are. Into customizing space marines? Well this book will give you so much inspiration!
Now I will warn you, there are some changes from the past, mainly to do with colours but the characters stay the same plus the addition of others.
So apart from a look at Sven Bloodhowl’s Bloodwind, Harald Deathwolf’s Deathwolves, and Egil Silverhand’s Ironwolves, what do you get?

Grey Knights Images leaked - A Closer Look

You may have seen that the folks over at La Taberna de Laurana uploaded a sneak peak of the upcoming Grey Knights releases today, so here's a closer look at the sets.
Having a look at the new prices (the Strike Squad doubles in price for example but for twice the miniatures) only time will tell what value we get by these reboxings and if there is any new material in them. Do notice however that the Purgation and Interceptor squads are missing from the line-up, unless they are alternate configurations in the sets.

White Dwarf Issue #28 - Plus Space Wolf Painting Guide info

We we're week whatever into the Space Wolves releases, and they're about 50/50 success rate so far; the Stormfang was a bit of a fizzer, but the Dreadnoughts were pretty popular. Well with the re-release of Logan Grimnar in this week's White Dwarf and his brand new... chariot, there has again been some rumblings.
Personally I don't think it's that bad. I wouldn't buy it, but I can see Space Wolf players liking it. It has all the iconography right and would fit into the army.
He is the main focus this week, but we also get a look at the new Space Wolf Painting Guide which looks at other Great Companies within the Space Wolves.
So, apart from Logan's Shaggin-Wagon and that neat book, what else do you get?

Warhammer Visions #7 Review - Have GW Finally Got it Right?

Warhammer: Visions was always such a great idea - a magazine for the hobbyist concentrating on great miniatures and all things hobby rather than rules and game play.
Unfortunately the execution has at time been less than sterling - in fact at times it's verged on recycling!
But looking through this month's issue, have Games Workshop finally got it right? Even a cursory look through will show you there has been a change; less recycled images, less concentration on the new releases, lots of well painted armies and 'Eavy Metal showcases - plus a Paint Splatter that works!

Gunpla 2014 - Real Grade Gundam ZEPHYRANTHES On its Way!

Gunpla is a conglomeration of the words Gundam and Plastic kit and describes the hobby of building Gundam kits for display and also competition.
Every year the Gunpla Buliders World Cup is staged in regional heats around the world with the winner getting the chance to fly to Tokyo and compete with their model against the best in the world.
Last year was my first entry, and I was pleased to come 8th in Australia. This year I'm hoping for better things - but it's been a disasterous lead up.
First I changed my mind about the kit I was going to make, then the kit I went with was very complex and I stuffed up the paint job, until finally last week I bought the Real Grade Gundam Zephyranthes kit.. Real Grade combines the detail and articulation of the Master Grade kits but gives you the smaller scale of the High Grade 1/144 kits.
This is my first Real Grade, and it's been fiddly and time consuming, but in just 4 days I now have a Gunpla entry to compete with.
Gunpla is my yearly guilty pleasure of getting totally absorbed into the world of plastic mecha kits - and with Gundam you can't go wrong.

White Dwarf Issue #27 Review - Dreads & Space Wolves!

It's been a bumper week for releases with the Stormfang/ Stormwolf and also Warhammer: Visions #7, but it's White Dwarf #27 that holds the real bounty this week!
With Space Wolves the flavour of the month, we get the Venerable Dreadnought kit that allows you to make one of three kits - the standard Dreadnought, Murderfang or fan favourite, Bjorn the Fell-Handed.
We also get a look at the upcoming Space Wolves Codex and it's super-expensive deluxe edition(s) which are not only pretty, but have extra content - damn you GW!
There's also a bevy of miniatures from Forge World and a cool article on heroes and monsters which is sure to inspire, And of course with the Dreadnoughts come the Dreadnought rules and the Designer's Notes that accompany them.

Stormfang/ Stormwolf UNboxing and review

There's been a storm of chatter (no pun intended) about the big release from Games Workshop this week..
The Stormfang/ Stormwolf is designed by the same guy who brought us the Hydra/ Wyveryn - Nic Ho - and as much as that kit was a bit boring., the Stormfang at least can't be called boring!
The Stormfang a gunship, able to transport 6 marines into close combat while armed with the super-rare and super-old Hellfrost Destructor..
The Stormwolf is a heavily armed transport and can carry 16 marines while unleashing a fair bit of fire power onto the enemies of Humanity in the process.
The first thing you notice about this kit is it's size.
