Gunpla is a conglomeration of the words Gundam and Plastic kit and describes the hobby of building Gundam kits for display and also competition. Every year the Gunpla Buliders World Cup is staged in regional heats around the world with the winner getting the chance to fly to Tokyo and compete with their model against the best in the world. Last year was my first entry, and I was pleased to come 8th in Australia. This year I'm hoping for better things - but it's been a disasterous lead up. First I changed my mind about the kit I was going to make, then the kit I went with was very complex and I stuffed up the paint job, until finally last week I bought the Real Grade Gundam Zephyranthes kit.. Real Grade combines the detail and articulation of the Master Grade kits but gives you the smaller scale of the High Grade 1/144 kits. This is my first Real Grade, and it's been fiddly and time consuming, but in just 4 days I now have a Gunpla entry to compete with. Gunpla is my yearly guilty pleasure of getting totally absorbed into the world of plastic mecha kits - and with Gundam you can't go wrong. + + See more of the Gunpla Project Blog here + + |
