Having had recent inspiration to continue with the XIIth Legion War Hounds, I've decided to finish the Breachers/ Heavy Infantry squad. Frankly I find them pretty hard to pose behind that big shield, so trying to find interesting poses has been a challenge - his guy, however, came up a treat! As with a few of the others, I used the Death Guard torsos to make them look bulkier and the addition of the Mechanicus head seems to work nicely too. The War Hounds icon on the shield is from Pop Goes The Monkey.on Shapeways. Notice the Umbra Patter Bolter as well - a little salute back to Rogue Trader era Space Marines

This blog is often seen as synonymous with War Hounds Legion, being that's it's a rare one for people to build, but squirreling away in the back of the Beardy Hammer dungeon is a secret so dark that it must clothe itself in black - it is the desire to make Dark Angels. Not just any Dark Angels mind you, but those untainted by Lion-El Douchbag, the Terran Dark Angels who - once abandoned by their Primarch - were then unfairly seen as heretics and forced to flee in shame and become The Fallen. Now hunted by their former Brothers, The Fallen still remain loyal to the Emperor but bitter towards their former comrades. This project started as an idea to make Consecrator Space Marines - 40K loyalists clad in the old armour marks of their Progenitor Chapter, the old black and red of the Terran Dark Angels. Then as I made the first one (above far right) I wondered why not just make some Fallen. They're cool with an awesome backstory (until Forge World retcons it which they're sure to do) and classic armour from back in the Rogue Trader days. The only difficulty is that the shoulder icon was a bit different back thyen. Forge World make a really ornate one, and then I saw that Pop Goes the Monkey on Shapeways make exactly what I was looking for. I already had War Hounds and Consecrator ones from them, so now I added Dark Angel ones and THEY ARE FRAKKIN' AMAZING! Not too thick, just perfect (below right). Hands down one of the best after market 40K products available. Once I teamed those with the MKIV Space Marines from Betrayal at Calth and the always amazing Veteran Shoulderpads from Mastercrafted (below left) I was set! The Dark Angel;s themselves are a very matte, very dark black with muted colours only red, white and a splash of green. I wanted these guys to really be the Angels of Death their history portrays them as. Overall I'm pretty happy as a start. The seeming re-emergence of The Fallen in the latest 40K story arch is fun, so lets see what happens! So far each of them have different heraldry, an idea i'd like to continue on these grizzled old veterans of a once less treasonous time.
