30TH Anniversary Space Marine Revealed!

The 30th Anniversary model is based on the original Space Marine model, with his pre-Bolter combi-weapon and circular plate on the shoulder.
Check out the cool modern-era bayonet BTW.
The model will be around $50 AUD/ $30 US or free if you spend some large amount of money - probably around $160 US...or $14,000 AUD! :(
Quite a bit for one model - which is a shame - as we could have recreated this scene (right) from Rogue Trader with the first scratchbuilt Land Raider

Easter Holiday Update - War Hounds Legion Back On The Table!

It's been a little while since I've made a concerted push with my War Hounds Legion, but with Easter here there was time to get some work done.
I set about on two projects; (1) painting a new Tactical Veteran and (2) updating some old ones to integrate them with the current rules.
I had wanted to arm the War Hounds with Volkite Calivers, but after talks with Forge World I found that although these are pre-Heresy and Volkites were more numerous, Bolters were the favoured weapon of the time, so 2 Marines weren't armed properly!

Bloody Khorne & New FW Weapons - White Dwarf #113 Review

In 1996, Sepultura released a song called "Roots, Bloody Roots" - it was the beginning of the end for that version of Sepultura and the formation of Soulfly. The song was a tribute to indigenous strength, but these days whenever I see Khorne miniatures I can't help but think "Khorne, Bloody Khorne"
What has that got to do with White Dwarf this week? Well... Khorne Bloody Khorne is back, this time with three new character models which duplicate already existing Khorne characters - but far from being imitations, in my mind these are far better!
What is interesting is to see that these were obviously sculpted by at least two different sculptors.
More on that later.
Also in this issue we have a good look at an awesome Space Marine Diorama from Golden Demon (oddly it only got Bronze!), there is an expanded look at the Forces of Order in Age of $igmar, plus a really good piece on the new heavy weapons from Forge World.

Are These Hints About The 30th Anniversary Space Marine??

There is much anticipation about what exactly the special miniature available on April 16th will be to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the launch of Games Workshop's incarnation of the Space Marine.
So far we have heard rumours of everything from a MKVI boxed set (one can only hope) to another Captain with a Power Fist and Cape *YAWN*.
Well Games Workshop in Australia had a few tantalising hints on their Facebook today that might just give us an idea of what to expect.

There will be an EXCLUSIVE Miniature and Book available to buy on the day (No pre-order!), and every purchase made on the day will include a FREE commemorative pinbadge and art card!"

So at least now we know that there will be a Space Marine and a book to BUY, but that's not all...

"Purchase a White Dwarf Magazine to enter which includes an undercoated Space Marine. You have 30 minutes to paint it as best as you can!"

So is White Dwarf coming with an undercoated Space Marine? Sounds like it...
As much as a MKVI boxed set or even the Horus Heresy MKIV boxed set would be awesome, my bet will be on one of the cool new ones from the Space Marine Paint Set which seems to be a nicely detailed semi-multi-part, brand new miniature. Not as exciting, but still kind of cool!

Flying Lizards & A Big Birthday - White Dwarf #112 Review

Happy weekend to you - if you're working, I'm sorry, if you're not then you may be planning on taking a trip down to your local Games Workshop and picking up the new White Dwarf - but is it worth your hard-earned coin?

This week's White Dwarf sees a return to Age of $igmar and more large lizards! I say 'lizards' and not 'dragons' because dragons these are not!
Sent from the star-god Dracothian to aid Man in their fight against Chaos, these large chaps certainly dominate the tabletop. Large models seem to be the way at the moment with Archaon's forces possessing a number of large models, plus those from The End Times - so the Forces of Order certainly need some fire support.
There are also a few other things this issue, some beautifully painted miniatures by Maxime Pastourel, a look at the Sigmar's big hitters - the Extremis Chambers, and a showcase of the Deathwatch minis...

Review - Warex's SPACE WARRIORS RUBIDIUM HEADS SET

Earlier this week we had a look at Warex's Female Inquisitor with Deathcruiser Bike - so toady let's have a look at some of their Space Marine-compatible helmets.
Warex make a few different types, but the Rubidium Heads really spoke to me - must have been the circular air filters!
There are many Space Marine-compatible heads out there, but like the other Warex products we have seen, these are flawless, strong, crisp and very well detailed.
In terms of fit, these work perfectly, giving good movement and clearing the neck well to make expressive poses.

I'm not exactly sure how these will fit into any of my current forces, but these heads could be used on Imperial Guard to make Adeptus Arbites or even vehicle crew on Space Marine tanks. They would make really good Grey Knights or Death Guard heads.
As far as investment goes, they weren't expensive and arrived within two weeks.
If you're looking for something different, why not give these, or one of their other designs a go?!

Review - Warex's Female Inquisitor on Deathcruiser Bike

A few weeks ago we showed you some really awesome models from Warex's Ebay Store.
At that time I made an order and today they are here, so figured we should have a look at probably the most spectacular first - The Female Imperial Inquisitor with Deathcruiser Bike.
This model jumped out at me instantly, and as much as I ADORE their cars, the AUD $ is not that great at the moment - so this was a good test model.
What I received today has blown me away...

C-3PO Trains A Dragon... Or Two - White Dwarf #111 Review

During the launch of Age of $igmar, all we saw for many weeks were the bastard sons of C-3PO on steroids, the Stormcast Eternals. Like Space Marines but with less variety and super sparkly, the Stormcast Eternals were overexposed to the point of complete saturation point.
It's with this piece of background in mind that I present this week's White Dwarf review which, at it's core, has Stormcast Eternals. The static Fritz Lang-esque dudes have not only returned, they brought with them a pet.
And what would an Age of $igmar knight ride? Well a frikkin' dragon - what else?
Sure they have no wings, but I wonder if the Seraphon look at them and think of these beasts as being in bondage to humanity, their supposed ally.
Can you see it now? A "Free the Dracoth" bumper stickers all across the realm, marches in the streets calling for Dracothian rights. There's a side story for you!
So is this a good issue? Worth buying??

A Month Of Releases & 3 BIG Armies - Warhammer Visions #26

Is it that time again? Yes, Warhammer Visions is upon us, showcasing a month worth of releases, some great armies and a tonne of photos full of inspiration.
There's some good things about this issue, and I'll spell that out as we go along, but in the hope that someone in the void of the internet may be pay attention - some of the photography in this issue is pretty poor.
You may remember that we've touched on this before (weird filters/ bad lighting/ unclear pictures), but for the most part it has improved dramatically after quite a few issues that left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately for the reader, it looks like simple things like poor contrast and white balancing have returned leaving some of the pictures unnecessarily dark or just unclear.
This is people's beloved hobby work we are talking about here and for the photos not to do them justice is a real shame. Don't get me wrong, there are some awesome sections, but you'll see the difference between what is good and what is a mess.

More Plagues!! Now It's Rats... - White Dwarf #110 Review

Is it me or are Games Workshop obsessed with Skaven and Nurgle. Honestly, it seems every 2nd release has something to do with either of them.
Yes, I know it's an exaggeration, but seriously, think back - it seemed pretty recently that there was all the talk about The Horned Rat taking Slaanesh's place in the pantheon and Nurgle doing more to sell green paint than any before him. I'm just bored of it!
Thankfully there is the second part of the Warhammer 40k rules for the Genestealer Cult from the Deathwatch Overkill boxed game that hit the shelves this week.
The way White Dwarf have done the WH40K rules for the Genestealer Cult is actually very nicely executed - they haven't rushed it, there is expectation about the next tid-bit of information and the fluff is well written with there now being a better tie-in between the Genestealers in the Cult and the impending Tyranid invasion. Full Circle!
So - is this issue actually worth buying?

The Pandemic Spreads In Tom Clancy's The Division

There's a new game in the Tom Clancy franchise which has been teasing players for years now.
First seen at E3 in 2013, it's an open world RPG that mixes the play of Ghost Recon with the adventuring aspects of games like World of Warcraft. I've played the Beta and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Well there's a really cool tool on The Division's website that shows how fast a pandemic like the one depicted in the game would spread. Making it even better is that fact you can personalise it to your home, your hospital and your shopping centre.
