 | Is it me or are Games Workshop obsessed with Skaven and Nurgle. Honestly, it seems every 2nd release has something to do with either of them. Yes, I know it's an exaggeration, but seriously, think back - it seemed pretty recently that there was all the talk about The Horned Rat taking Slaanesh's place in the pantheon and Nurgle doing more to sell green paint than any before him. I'm just bored of it! Thankfully there is the second part of the Warhammer 40k rules for the Genestealer Cult from the Deathwatch Overkill boxed game that hit the shelves this week. The way White Dwarf have done the WH40K rules for the Genestealer Cult is actually very nicely executed - they haven't rushed it, there is expectation about the next tid-bit of information and the fluff is well written with there now being a better tie-in between the Genestealers in the Cult and the impending Tyranid invasion. Why are they returning? Well there's a new Battletome called (drum roll please) Skaven Pestilens that covers these fanatical followers of the Horned Rat.
To be fair, if you are into this part of the Skaven family, then this book does sound like it's pretty good; 88 pages of fluff including three colour schemes and the Warscrolls for the forces at your disposal.
But it doesn't stop there, following this little plug for the new book there is also the new Start Collecting! Skaven Pestilens boxed set and a larger force set called The Virulent Horde which includes the previously mentioned set PLUS a command section and a Verminlord.

As every week, there's some books to be had - Realmgate Wars: Warbeast and Skaven Pestilens are both set in the Age of $igmar universe and Legacy of Caliban is a large Dark Angels anthology set in the Warhammer 40K universe and sounds like great fun! Of course the Dark Angels are all about mystery, so Black Library haven't put the book up on their site yet so link to them then! Seriously, Games Workshop should have the Black Library books up so all the pre-orders are together. Wouldn't that be simpler?
The Unholy Infestation section is nicely done, containing the Warhammer 40K rules for the Genestealer Cult, plus some good background.

on the front cover of White Dwarf today it trumpeted "Two Painting Guides" and I thought "Woot! They're doing painting guides..." only to discover it's Paint Splatter.
As it is, they are both pretty good, making the very intricate colour schemes we've seen in the boxed set very simple. Will they harbour the same result? Who knows??
Verdict
The Unholy Infestation section in here is good, but the rest of the issue is very boring.
This is a sales-driven issue rather then content relating back to sales, so expect to be sold something.
