GW Dark Elves - First Impressions

As I wrote a few days ago, the upcoming Dark Elves release from Games Workshop fills me with joy. I love the Dark Elves (and their brethren the Dark Eldar).
They are cruel, violent, calculating and (let's face it) sexy as! Yes, this is the ultimate bad guy/ bad girl fantasy!
Well today Games Workshop put them up on their website for pre-order which gave us all a closer look - and what a look it is.
Unfortunately it's at times awesome and at times... well pretty average!

New Horus Heresy book looks way cool!!

Black Library put up the interview trailer for their upcoming "Tallarn: Executioner" and it looks really interesting. Backed up with amazing cover art (possibly my favourtie yet) this could be quite the package!

Metroplex hits shelves in Australia

Australia isn't the place for good or new Transformers. We are not serviced well, let's be honest!
So when my friend Ced sent me this pic (click for bigger view) of the new Metroplex at retail in Australia, colour me surprised!
As you can see from the box - it's bloody massive! It's (in the US vernacular) "2 Feet tall" and at around $119 AUS (on special mind you) it's probably a pretty good buy!
He found this one at Target Rhodes, but there were only a few.
As the master of all things TF, he also told me that Toys r Us in Australia will be getting a small amount of Masterpiece Soundwaves, but they will retail for $250 AUS. What a rip!!
Amazing toy, but not for that price. They're sold out in Canada, so this one might not get added to my shelves :(

The Dark Elves Cometh!

It's with great excitement I see that the Dark Elves in the Games Workshop universe are about to get a relaunch!
Fresh from the Dark Eldar relaunch a few years back, it looks like the same attention to detail is going into these guys... or should I say girls!

The new Cauldron of Blood. The central serpentine figure is amazing! Looks like they are taking the Dark Elves further down the nautical path.

Some of the new figures including some superb looking figures in the foreground. They look like Jes Goodwin's work... In the background the rather boring Dark Elf infantry. What a shame - a missed opportunity after the poor infantry figures served up for many years.

More shots of the Cauldron of Blood crew and that amazing serpentine central figure. Brings to mind the serpentine general in the Dark Eldar release.

Planetfall - Cool concept art but...

Planetfall by Spartan Games is the planetary version of their Firestorm Armada game and looks damn cool.
There's a fair bit of concept art out there, and enticed by the look of them I've recently done a small order.

The Forge World World Eaters transfer sheet

As you may remember when I was painting up my War Hounds Space Marine, the topic of the Chapter symbol came up. It was a fiddly job, but I did one free-hand and then moulded one out of Green Stuff for the leg of the Contemptor.

So today I was trawling through the Forge World website and happened across the World Eaters Legion Transfer Sheet... and surprise surprise - there's War Hounds Chapter symbols on the sheet!
It's a miracle... no more free-hand Chapter symbols!
Thank you, Forge World - lets order some and see what we get!

Time to kit out the next War Hounds Space Marine!
The story goes that the War Hounds decorated their armour with spikes and other such close combat viciousness - this of course went to ridiculous ends when they became the World Eaters!

The Astartes of this Legion often modified their armour by adding large spikes on the shoulder plates to not only evoke fear but also to turn the armour's surface into a weapon in its own right.

Today I received these great torsos from the Forge World World Eaters Rampager squad.
Now I wouldn't buy them usually, as the Heresy World Eaters don't really appeal, but the torsos will go very nicely with my War Hounds!

War Hounds Contemptor Dreadnought Begins

The Forge World Contemptor Dreadnought was was met with much hollering and excitement, so I was pretty anxious to get my hands on one.
After much pestering about it from my friend Rob, we both decided to get one and give it a go.
There's some beautifully painted ones online, which I must admit worries me a tad, especially when it got here and I saw how small it is...

So here starts the adventure!
I will be painting mine up to go with my pre-Heresy War Hound Space Marine (scroll down on this link).

D.I.Y "Army of Two" Mask

Army of Two isn't the greatest game in the world, Hell it wasn't the greatest game of the year it was released... BUT what was cool were the sweet guns and very cool ballistic masks they wore.
(Granted, Chris Bachalo did a lot of the concept art for the sequel and he's awesome!!)
So i decided to give making one a go - and it wasn't a total disaster!

What a find! The MK1 Rhino - how we love you.

I have always been a fan of what is now known as the MK1 Rhino.
It came out around the same time I was reading Rogue Trader and ever since I've always had a fondness (not unlike the original Land Raider which is still awesome - see the bottom of this post for more!)
Now, why am I waxing lyrical about this?
Well my friend Simon was at the St Vincent de Paul the other day and found me a Mk1 Choas Marine Rhino.

Space Marine Tactical Boxed Set 2013 - did they forget something?

Did games Workshop forget to add one of the sets of legs to their Tactical Boxed Set?
As you can see from the box art, there looks to be a Space Marine with legs in an at-ease stance - but if you look in the box and our breakdown last time, they're not there!
Could this be a portent of things to come, or was it a last minute change?
They do look like the kind of stance for a Devastator rather than Tactical Marine - I don't know about you, but I was looking forward to them!

Tek Recon Review - Havok & Hammerhead

You may remember it was with much excitement we hyped the Tek Recon Kickstarter.
There has been recent controversy with Tek Recon releasing the blasters to retail before distributing to backers leaving a pretty bad taste in many people's mouths.
Tek Recon say this was to get the final funds to get the App up and running and also so they don't miss the last shipment intake before the Xmas influx.
Either way, it wasn't great, but all that really matters is the quality of the product.
