Legion of the Damned Codex - No New Minis.. again?

Games Workshop announced their Legion of the Damned Codex a few days ago, which gives more insight than we may ever have had into the mysterious Legiones Astartes. The Marines who appear out of nowhere to turn the tide of battle in their flaming armour.
Apart from sporting probably the best Legion of the Damned cover ever - there really isn't anything about this release that says "new" - which brings with it overtones of the Sisters of Battle release from a few months ago.
Remember that? No? That's okay - no one else does either!
Games Workshop have wheeled out the old Finecast miniatures which, beautiful as they are, are (a) not new and (b) Finecast.
This would have been the perfect opportunity for GW to release their first miniatures taken from Finecast and put into plastics. These iconic Marines seem like too good an opportunity... but alas!
Come on GW - It's not new unless it's new.

Dreamforge NOVA Cannon Review

You may have seen my recent post about the Dreamforge H.E.L Cannon, so as a sort of companion piece, I also bought the NOVA Cannon
If you've kept an eye on the on-going Dreamforge Leviathan Project page, you would know the Leviathan is a truly epic miniature - 8.5 inches of muscled goodness - with the ability to swap out it's weapon arms.
The NOVA Cannon may not be as long as the H.E.L Cannon, but it's not out done. It's a snub nosed twin-barrelled powerhouse.

Warmachine Bane Thralls Review

Warmachine from Privateer Press is one of the most expansive miniature and gaming universes out there today. It's a universe and range so expansive that it truly rivals Games Workshop.
It's an original world too - a mix of traditional fantasy archetypes and Steampunk - which has produced some amazing miniatures from archaic looking mechs and human infantry to horrific necromantic legions and alien-looking forces!

In recent years they have steadily made the transition from white metal to plastics which has dramatically dropped the price of some of their miniatures and made it easier to army build.
But how good are these plastic miniatures?
I picked up some of their early plastics years ago and yesterday I picked up some of the new Bane Thralls to have a look - and... well, how do I say this?

Dreamforge Leviathan Crusader Update... IT'S ALIVE!!!

Last night saw some significant progress in my ongoing Dreamforge Leviathan Crusader - the waist was finished and the legs are on!
Houston, we have an operable mech
I have to say that this is a crackingly good model. Getting the spine to join the torso was fiddly - lining up the hydraulics was more difficult once painted as the pieces didn't move as freely.
Then - typical me, I broke one of the hip joints off! This is now glued and drying, but so SO disappointing after all this effort.
Once the hydraulics were fitted and moving the waist section is a piece of art! Combine that with the legs and knees - this is amazing. I have action figures that aren't this flexible!

White Dwarf #4 Review - KNIGHTS!!

Well here it is - possibly the biggest release of the year - Imperial Knights.
If you're of a certain age - an lets be honest if you are you're probably a Beardy - then you will remember the Epic scale Titans and their smaller brethren the Imperial Knights.
If you don't remember, then this is going to be an awesome ride which all kicks off in the latest issue of White Dwarf, Issue #4!
In fact, like the Dwarves permeated the pages of White Dwarf over the last few issues, it's time for Titans (Imperial Knights) to dominate this issue.
Maybe it's the inclusion of the Imperial Knights and an only vague interest in Dwarves - but personally I think White Dwarf #4 is their best issue yet! It combines the elements of a new release, lots of good pictures, detailed background and interviews with the people you want to hear from

Dreamforge H.E.L CANNON Review

The Dreamforge Leviathan is a truly epic miniature - in fact the term "miniature" may be incorrect considering it's size! It's an 8.5 inch tall monster, fully articulated and customisable thanks to a variety of weapons recently released by Dreamforge. Two of the stand-out weapons in the current accessory line are the H.E.L Cannon and the Nova Cannon. I recently ordered both to give them a go and below you will find the unboxing and construction of the H.E.L Cannon. Overall I like the massive gatling gun that the Leviathan comes with - but these are both so cool!

Titanfall XBox One Controller Unboxing

The Titanfall Beta has just finished, which would leave a lot of people suitably satiated but wanting more - so to keep you a little bit happy, the kids at Microsoft and Respawn have released (a week late) the Titanfall themed XBox One Controller and it's pretty!
Interestingly it's in the IMC colours (white and orange) so it would be fairly safe to assume there will be a Militia coloured controller too, especially considering the Militia seem to be the face of Titanfall.

Games Workshop Rune Lord Review

The latest Dwarf releases from Games Workshop have been some of the most heavily promoted miniatures in years!
In fact the first 3 issues of White Dwarf have been almost entirely around these miniatures and the website is wall-to-wall Dwarves.
With the end to metal miniatures, this has been an entirely plastic release including the characters which are released as clam shell packed, single sprue minis.
The multi-part nature of them varies, but these are truly multi-part, not multi-pose that's for sure!
There is a nice addition to these new releases though - and that's the option for different characters, effectively meaning you could buy to packs and have two different looking miniatures.
For a company that held to metal for so long (longer than most of it's competition), this is a very nice way to get well moulded characters...and a few extra bitz for your bitz box!

GIJoe at Toyfair 2014

2013 was a pretty lacklustre year for GIJoe - the movie wasn't great and the figures were limited runs and not easy to find - some Ebay sellers are making a killing on peg warmers alone!
It's pretty crappy, because 2014 is the 50th Anniversary of the original action figure and it was looking pretty bleak, but his weekend is Toy Fair in the US, and low and behold, Hasbro actually delivered. Head over to our GIJoe page for more

War Hounds Space Marine Update

If you've been following the Project: War Hounds section of this site there hasn't been an update for a while.
As other projects and life get in the way, my fledgling force of Tactical Pre-Heresy War Hounds Space Marines just slowly bubbled along - but today I can show you a mini that's been coming along for a while. For the keen of eye, this is the first War Hound with a Bolter. I had considered long and hard if I would use Bolters at all, as it seemed pre-Heresy and certainly pre-Imperium Space Marines used Volkite weapons. After must consultation and finally word from Forge World, it was ascertained that in fact Bolters were used in those fledgling years... I'm still not sure I agree with that, but there you go!

White Dwarf Issue #3 Review

The triumph of the Dwarves continue into issue #3 of the now-not-so-new Weekly White Dwarf.
This week it features the Iron Breakers, Iron Drakes and the very first Battle Report of this incarnation of White Dwarf.
It certainly feels like Games Workshop are getting into the groove with White Dwarf and it's settling into a comfortable place - maybe not a place for me - but a place.
This issue also includes the now regular Designers Notes - and considering this is effectively a new release magazine that's a bit of a no-brainer.
So how do you feel about how White Dwarf is going? Is it floating your boat or sinking like a stone?

Imperial Knights Revealed - Dreamforge Must Be Pissed!

It was news out of the blue and brought Beardys hearts to racing point - Games Workshop weren't only releasing Knights like the old Epic Knights - these ones were in WH40k scale!
Any real information has been scant, but yesterday Bell of Lost Souls brought a lot of the info together - and today they have some pictures.
What's a "Knight" you say? Well think of Space marine Chapters, then take away Marines and give them one-man titans. Those are Knights!

Sneak Peak at the New Tek Recon Predator

I loved my Tek Recon when I got mine - but personally my interest has waned somewhat - but his morning Tek Recon put out the sneak peak of their new Predator blaster.
This HAS to be the sexiest blaster on the market!

Titanfall Sends The Wrong Platform Beta Keys

As Titanfall starts to roll out, a major error occurred today when PC players were sent Xbox One registration keys for the Beta.
EA were reasonably quick to reply, but id you didn't get the info, this is what you need to do.

On EA Help - Search for Titanfall and select Contact Us.
Select PC as the Platform, and click Next
Select the Topic - Demo/Beta and type in Eligibility Issue in the subject line, and click Next
Click on Email Me.
On the next screen, when asking for What type of Demo/Beta issue you are having, select Eligibility
Enter the Titanfall Beta code that is not working as the description of the problem.
Select Submit.
You will receive a new PC code within the next two hours.

The process isn't as simple as the instructions imply, so bear with it until you get the email option - then it's smooth sailing!

More War Hounds Space marines on the Way!

It's been a while since there has been movement on my War Hounds Pre-Heresy Legion, and Arthur Dixon on our Facebook asked if they were still being worked on - and yes, sir, indeed they are!
I am currently working on the Contemptor which if you have a look at the War Hounds section of the site is taking a fair bit of time! It's a nice kit, but not only is it fiddly, it's also a different scale to get used to painting.
It's easy to get used to the size of Space Marines, but what do you do with all those bigger sections? They look so plain!
This weekend you will see a new Tactical Trooper go up!
In the works there is a Sicaran Battle Tank which I am desperate to get to, but concerned how it will look now that the original base coat for the War Hounds Mordian Blue has been replaced with Macragge Blue.
The upcoming miniatures look great - more dynamic that's for sure, so keep your eyes peeled! In fact you would have seen one of them in the February WIPs blog last week.

Dreamforge Leviathan Crusader - Weathering & Paint Chips

It's been a long time since I worked on my Dreamforge Leviathan Crusader, but the recent awesome previews have made me want to do some more.
Opening the box up again proves what an amazing kit it is - so many pieces and such a solid sizeable model.
The task today ended up being truncated, but it was to turn the inital paint chips on the upper body into paint scratches. I wanted to keep them in scale with the model so went to town on it with a 6B (more)

February Miniature WIPs

Hi, this is a new section I thought I'd start to share our WIPs each month.
Making the models we do, especially if there is a lot of converting involved, is a HUGE part of this hobby. Some people make strasight out of the box, but personally I convert everything I do and love every minute of it.
Do they all get painted? No.
Do they all conform to the rules? No.
BUT, converting and even building from scratch is a great way to have fun with your models and inject some character into painting..
I hope to post the ones I make each month and would really love you to either post your's on the Facebook, or send them in to me and I'll put them up. It can be any genre and any theme.

Forge World Kharn "the Bloody" Captain of the World Eaters

Forge World have previewed the latest in their Horus Heresy Character Series, this time it's Kharn The Bloody, Captain of the World Eaters 8th Assault Company

He comes with alternate heads and alternate weapons and bares a strikingly similar pose to Angron, his Primarch.
In seeing the pictures I wasn't amazingly impressed, but having watched the video (below) I'm actually thinking that one in my War Hounds force might be a bloody good idea...!

White Dwarf Issue #2 Review

Issue 2 of the newly revamped and now weekly White Dwarf spotlights it's namesake - the Dwarves.
As you may be aware, the Dwarves relaunched last week in Issue 1, which made for not a bad subject to relaunch a long-standing publication in a new format.
At the time I mentioned I was concerned about how White Dwarf would define themselves next to the monthly Warhammer Visions and make their own impact - and in Issue 2 we see exactly what the new weekly White Dwarf is for.
The new weekly White Dwarf, at this point, is a place to launch new miniatures, show how to put them together and paint them and also to get into the heads of the designers.
Is it a catalogue - well yes - but is it useful to the hobbyist and gamer? Let's have a look inside...
