White Dwarf #4 Review - KNIGHTS!!

Well here it is - possibly the biggest release of the year - Imperial Knights.
If you're of a certain age - an lets be honest if you are you're probably a Beardy - then you will remember the Epic scale Titans and their smaller brethren the Imperial Knights.
If you don't remember, then this is going to be an awesome ride which all kicks off in the latest issue of White Dwarf, Issue #4! 
In fact, like the Dwarves permeated the pages of White Dwarf over the last few issues, it's time for Titans (Imperial Knights) to dominate this issue.
Maybe it's the inclusion of the Imperial Knights and an only vague interest in Dwarves - but personally I think White Dwarf #4 is their best issue yet! It combines the elements of a new release, lots of good pictures, detailed background and interviews with the people you want to hear from

This review will be dominated by the White Dwarf release - and considering the White Dwarf is pretty much just that plus a double page on some new books, then that's probably justified! 

Alright, so now we have a price point in all dominions - get out the converter and work out who gets the best deal! I'm guessing the box will be about the same size as the Tyragon.
Great to see the Master's name, Jes Goodwin, attached to this project.

And here we have it - the write up - which sticks closely to what I remember of the Imperial Knights back in the day. This image of the House Terryn Paladin Knight has been the iconic image so far, and the paint job on it is just beautiful!
The plethora of bits you get with the kit is impressive and will make the ability to build varied models out of the box pretty easy.

This image of the House Raven Errant Knight will fast become a fan favourite! House Raven are a Mechanicus aligned House, so don the colours of that fearful organisation. This also shows the alternate weapons array, multi-melta and chainblade.

Now it's time for markings - and what a great looking decal sheet it is!
You get one standard with the kit, then another one is available to add to that sheet.
There's some nice background on the Houses as they go through the decal sheets too which may help you decide which one you will paint!
It's really nice they gave us such a big image as well so seeing the decals is really easy.

And here we have it - background aplenty!
Jervis Johnson and Jes Goodwin put together their vision and how long it has been in the minds of these guys to bring them to WH40k scale.

Paint Splatter is a great guide to some pretty basic but crucial elements of painting your Imperial Knight. 
The guides are actually really good, and unlike some previous ones, are impressively done.

Sprues and Glue has some handy hints, which for Gundam builders or those who've tackled the complicated Dreamforge Leviathan might seem obvious, but it's good to have it reinforced.
This is also a good opportunity to see the kit partially assembled.

The rules section is just two pages with some interesting tactics included.

The back cover gives you the opportunity to get a better idea of scale with the Knights being about 4 times the size of a Space Marine.

These images below are from the Games Workshop site, but if you haven't seen them they are interesting! You can see the back detail (VERY similar to the Dreamforge Leviathans) and the 4 alternate heads. It looks like there is actually 3 alternate heads and a helmet to go over the latter (left). 

Other things in this issue include a one-page write up on the Sentinels of Terra and Legion of the Damned Codexes, a glimpse of Warhammer Visions 2 and some novels, a short interview on the sculptors of the Imperial Knights and an interesting piece on Page 30 called Codex: Apocrypha - check that out it's quite cool

So White Dwarf Issue #4 is a go.
