Issue 2 of the newly revamped and now weekly White Dwarf spotlights it's namesake - the Dwarves. As you may be aware, the Dwarves relaunched last week in Issue 1, which made for not a bad subject to relaunch a long-standing publication in a new format. At the time I mentioned I was concerned about how White Dwarf would define themselves next to the monthly Warhammer Visions and make their own impact - and in Issue 2 we see exactly what the new weekly White Dwarf is for. The new weekly White Dwarf, at this point, is a place to launch new miniatures, show how to put them together and paint them and also to get into the heads of the designers. Is it a catalogue - well yes - but is it useful to the hobbyist and gamer? Let's have a look inside... |
It's a nice looking kit, able to make either rmodel. It's a fairly typical looking Dwarven machine with the Steampunk influences. The Steampunk route makes sense for the Dwarves and was something Games Workshop tired out on the Skaven a few years back.
The Runelord looks particularly nice, underplayed and subtle in details, but a really beautiful miniature.
Grimm Burloksson is an awesome looking miniature - the complete opposite of the Runelord - over the top and massive. Steampunked to the max!
I've even painted a few over the years and they are great to paint!
We don't see him in the spotlight section on the Runelord, but the Games Workshop site has him up.
This is definitely on my list...!
On the same page you'll also see Bit of the Week - this week the MKIV helmet from the Sternguard set. Not the best incarnation of that design, but still a great bit. Who doesn't love MKIV armour?
Interestingly no cross promotion with Forge World in that bit, or in fact the rest of this issue.
What is interesting is that it's not exactly flying off the shelves and the younger hobbyists I saw in store this morning weren't looking at it at all...
Diod you pick it up?
What do ytou think about it?
Do you like it or is it missing the mark and you can't wait for the next Warhammer Visions instead?
