In 1996, Sepultura released a song called "Roots, Bloody Roots" - it was the beginning of the end for that version of Sepultura and the formation of Soulfly. The song was a tribute to indigenous strength, but these days whenever I see Khorne miniatures I can't help but think "Khorne, Bloody Khorne" What has that got to do with White Dwarf this week? Well... Khorne Bloody Khorne is back, this time with three new character models which duplicate already existing Khorne characters - but far from being imitations, in my mind these are far better! What is interesting is to see that these were obviously sculpted by at least two different sculptors. More on that later. Also in this issue we have a good look at an awesome Space Marine Diorama from Golden Demon (oddly it only got Bronze!), there is an expanded look at the Forces of Order in Age of $igmar, plus a really good piece on the new heavy weapons from Forge World. ++ More After The Jump++ |
The Exalted Deathbringer and Aspiring Deathbringer are effectively additions to the already existing Deathbringer line within the Chaos range. There are already a few, but these seem to be closer to the current look of Khorne than even the more recent ones released. Where the Aspiring Deathbringer looks very much like he has fought his way up through the ranks of the Blood Warriors, wearing similar armour but with a trophy laddened helmet. the Exalted Deathbringer is much more like the Bloodreavers. Both of these sculpts have the same issues most of the recent Khorne releases do - they are out of proportion with the muscles are too big and the legs are too short. That being said, the alternate head for the Exalted Deathbringer (right) is amazing |
Hailing from many a different forgeworld, we have (in no particular order)
Ryza Pattern Lascannon, Mars Pattern Heavy Bolter, Phaestos Pattern Heavy Flamer, Mediant Patter Multi=Melta, Proteus-II Pattern Missile Launcher, Kalibrax Pattern Autocannon, Proteus Pattern Rotor Cannon, Telerac Pattern Volkite Culverin, and the Mars Pattern Plasma Cannon.
Apart from the weapons themselves, the backpacks are equally cool! These are awesome!!
Verdict
All in all it's a bit of a mixed bag really. There is a lot of Age of $igmar, so if that doesn't float your boat then this might not be for you, but if you're interested in the hobby and interested in what people do, then I'd say this issue is worth picking up.
