So you've been painting space marines for a while now, so why the Hell would you need a How To Paint Space Wolves book? Well, my very confident friend, this book is actually very very good. Some years back GW did a few of these style of books - How To Paint Space Marines is one, but this one does something quite interesting - it mixes that style of book with a Codex and also gives you background on characters and why the markings are like they are. Into customizing space marines? Well this book will give you so much inspiration! Now I will warn you, there are some changes from the past, mainly to do with colours but the characters stay the same plus the addition of others. So apart from a look at Sven Bloodhowl’s Bloodwind, Harald Deathwolf’s Deathwolves, and Egil Silverhand’s Ironwolves, what do you get? + + More After The Jump + + ~ WARNING - I am not a photographer, so expect dodgy pictures below. |
My very first GW painting guide came with the Space Marine Paint Set back in the late 80s and it was pretty scant on detail. Companies of Fenris is some next level stuff.
Some of it is pretty great, other stuff looks like it's the studio army rather than display quality.
His Great Company insignia seems to be pretty quality sporadic unfortunately which lets down the models a bit. Maybe there will be decals at some point...
Verdict
As far as this format goes, I'd LOVE to see a version of this for each of the Space Marine Legions in the Horus Heresy era. We get scant glimpses of markings and hints of Chapters inside Legions, but nothing solid. THIS is the format for that kind of thing!
For a Space Wolf fan - this is a must!
If you don't game and just paint - forget the Codex and get this!
If you game and thought the Codex was okay, this gives you the rest!
As I said earlier, I will be the first to shoot down a money-making venture by GW, but this really is a really good resource for hobbyist and gamer alike! Money well spent.
In fact if they brought out other Chapters, I'd be buying those too!
