Stormfang/ Stormwolf UNboxing and review

There's been a storm of chatter (no pun intended) about the big release from Games Workshop this week..
The Stormfang/ Stormwolf is designed by the same guy who brought us the Hydra/ Wyveryn - Nic Ho - and as much as that kit was a bit boring., the Stormfang at least can't be called boring!
The Stormfang a gunship, able to transport 6 marines into close combat while armed with the super-rare and super-old Hellfrost Destructor.. 
The Stormwolf is a heavily armed transport and can carry 16 marines while unleashing a fair bit of fire power onto the enemies of Humanity in the process.
The first thing you notice about this kit is it's size.

The kit is split over three sprues in a very similar style to any of the STC pattern vehicles. In fact looking at this it could be a Land Raider or Rhino.

As I said before, the scale is the first thing you notice - this is actually a reasonably sized ship. I was initially wondering how the Hell it would fit troops into it, but it does now make sense. Not sure about 16, but there you go!

Length-wise it's a bit longer and about as wide as a Rhino

A lot of the problems people had with the vehicle seemed to be it's small engines. But when you actually look at the size of them, they aren't that small! The use of common components (or at least similar looking) makes sense when the Imperium is using a standard STC patterns for it's vehicles.

There is a lot of detail on the kit, mostly moulded on unfortunately. Obviously this really is only for Space Wolves - pity for any fan-made Successor Chapters.

There is somewhat of an interior for the kit. Pretty much the same thing you get with the Rhino but without the interior wall details.

The included Techmarine comes with some really nice pieces that I'm sure will be very popular on the Bitz market, especially the helmet which is damn cool!

There are a fair few pelts and viking-style bitz and pieces, which I think look more Native-American than Viking, but what do I know?! 

Here's the much-lauded Hellfrost Destructor. The runes are nice and deep and recessed rather than raised which is nice.

I'm sure the twin-linked Hellfrost Cannons will be ending up on many a Space Wolf Rhino and a popular place for people to do OSL. The Multi-meltas do look awesome too! There's also a Heavy Bolter option for the sponsons if you feel the need.

And finally - here's the decal sheet. It's pretty stark and I think I expected more options. 

Verdict

I know it's kind of unpopular to say - but this seems like a great kit to me. The plastic is solid and construction seems to be in sub-assemblies which is nice. Shame about lack of interior detail, but maybe Forge World will come to town with that in the future...
If you're a Space Marines person this mightn't be a must, but it's definitely worth a look!
If you're a Space Wolves person, having one of these certainly won't kill you!
