White Dwarf Issue #20 - More Orks & 40K Librarium Edition...

As the galaxy burns, the Ork WAAAARGH begins to crush humanity under it's fierce tread. That being said - is it me or is anyone else underwhelmed?
If so, this issue of White Dwarf issue is FULL of Orks! This week it's some artillery and a Big Mek, neither horribly exciting, especially as they thing that really needed yup dating for the Orks range were the Nobz.
None the less, we get a pretty good look at the new additions to the Ork WAAAAGH machine, plus a look at the 40K Librarium Edition an essential for any 40K collector or someone looking to collect - well everything!
It's well worth a look I think.

The first thing we start with this issue is the Mek Gun, a multi-optioned platform for your Ork artillery. In fact not only can it be multi-optioned, you can build the kit THEN decide what option you want to use. In fact they say you don';t have ot choose - just change the weapon on the chassis and you're away. That's a cool idea, especially for the Orks who are pretty modular with their gear anyway. 

Now as much as that idea is cool - the kit itself looks like a pile of scrap (as the designer intended) but much less like a weapon of war. I'm not sure about the design frankly. What do you think?

Now the Big Mek with  Shokk Attack Gun - that is a fearsome bit of kit! They've really captured the movement and energy of this contraption - even including a Snotling being dragged into it.

Here we have it; (a) a break from the Oks and (b) some books, including the Librarium Edition. What a cool idea! Small hardback version of all the Codex for WH40K, PLUS the new Rules!
Interested to see the Dark Eldar in there so close to the apparent re-release!
A great idea - but at $400 AUS you have to wonder if it's worth it...

There's also a look at the new Lords of Mars book by Graham McNeil and William King's Fist of Demetrius.

Then it's quite a nice little bit on the Orks and their history in the 40K universe - at least as far as WAAAGHS go! Nothing super-new here, but nice to see Horus mentioned on the side of good (well as good as the Imperium gets!)

Fantastic model in the Hall of Fame, Brian Nelson's Archaon the Everchosen. Chaos heroes and lords come thick and fast in the Warhammer universe, but this guy is very very cool!

Adam Troke puts together quite a nice article about the power of the WAAAGH! I wonder if this is to encourage peopel to do Unbound Ork armies. Have a read and tell me what you think...

Paint Splatter seems to be looking for something to say, but their tutorial on the Energy Globes made this section for me - see WD, it's not THAT hard!

The insight in the Designers Notes is really quite good. The way he included as many Snotlings as he could and how he went about using the original design, but tweaking it. A far as Designers go, Edgar Ramos is very frank. I suppose it's all standard fair, but still a great insight to how it's all done. 

Overall the issue is pretty tame - but if you like Orks, then this is important to get into the head space of how they now envisage the Ork mindset. You'll get quite a bit out of it. If you're a casual reader, then I' not sure you'll get that much our of it.
The photos are nice, but there could have been a bit more done with the Mek Gun to show off how versatile it is meant to be.
