Building A Better Necron - For Free!!

The Necron are an ancient warrior race. Millions of years before man they fought each other, then The Old Ones to gain supremacy over the universe.
Realizing they could not beat the power of The Old Ones and The Warp, the Necrons allied with the C'tan and encased their spirits in bodies of living metal.
In the process the Necrons lost their souls, but they are now a near immortal race of mechanoids hell bent on ruling the galaxy again.
It's a great back story which in my mind is let down a little by the miniatures we have for them. 
Yes they look a bit like the Terminator, but it's more their pose - they are bent over and subservient - far from the proud ancient race who have no other objective than domination.
So while I was making my first Necron, I decided to fiddle around a bit and see if I could fix them...

This image above is what got me thinking about the Necrons. Here we seem them straight and tall - imposing immortal metallic warriors - unfortunately the current miniatures are more stooped thanks to a set of pistons on the side of the neck. It restricts the movement and placement of the head, forcing you to bend the miniature over for them to be looking forward.

You can see the pistons here, and it's a very easy process to remove them with your hobby knife.

Once the pistons are removed you will need to extend the length of the neck.
The jaw is too long and won't sit properly, so I cut off a piece of sprue and cut it to shape.
This is then glued on the top. Check the height as you go.

The head itself has a rounded bottom, which would be great if you could move it, but you can't!
Cut this flat so it will sit on the new neck you created with the piece of sprue.

Glue the newly shaped head to the top of the new neck you made and it will sit perfectly. Because of the shape of the chest, moving the head isn't easy, but I found tilting it gives the illusion of turning.

Here is the new Necron (on the left) and the standard Necron straight out of the box (on the right).
The Necron on the left looks more menacing to me! The other guy looks like he wants a treat of is servile in some way. YOU'RE AN IMMORTAL METAL WARRIOR - BE COOL MAN!

So here he is - a straighter, prouder Necron Warrior without having to go to eBay for new bits!.
He's not servile! He is the spear tip of the Necron Empire.
No one's going to tread on him!!
