 | You may remember our initial impressions of the Terran Alliance Nidhogg AA Tank in our review of it and the Goliath Walkers in this post. Well today it was time to put it together, and over all it's a nice kit - but there are some issues... |
 Like the Goliath suits, I have added quite a bit of stowage - like a real tank, but even more so. I actually started doing this because I didn't like the rounded shape of the back of the turret. This bulked it up and added some sense of occupancy. |  I didn't want the stowage to be completely uniform, so on the sides of the tank I made it a bit more random. The Green Stuff doesn't stick too well to the resin, so will have to add a tiny bit of Zap-a-Gap to the dried putty. |  Now this was the annoying part - the guns are too slim for the turret! Random design flaw really, but smoothed Green Stuff filled it in quite well. |
The overall design of the Nidhogg is great - but I do have some things I noticed:
1) the artwork is much bulkier and looks better. This chassis is actually quite sleek, as is the turret. The art work however is quite bulky and aggressive looking. I hope they fix this in the relaunch in 2014.
2) The detail on the white metal is, as predicted, not very good. It's fine, but not amazing - especially to 2013 standards. This would have been fine with Epic in the 90s, but not with the technology today. Again, maybe with the relaunch we can see the actual artwork (which is pristine and great) actually come to life!
3) The hull is slightly textured - almost like it's been 3D printed. Not sure how it will come up once painted - we will see!
Apart from that, it's very straight forward - there's only 4 pieces after all.
I'd say "buy this tank" and put a link up, but Spartan have taken down all of their Planetfall stuff and not responded to inquiries as to why...
As an aside, I have kept the guns fairly low as the story of the Wirbelwind bringing their guns to bear on infantry and light vehicles during WW2 has always interested me. That's some heavy firepower if needed!
