Well it's another sizeable preorder week for Warhammer 40K 8th Edition with starter sets and Easy To Build sets coming out the wazoo! Now if you bought the Dark Imperium boxed set to get the miniatures, then this pre-order week may be a little bitter sweet, with the bulk of those minis now available in cheaper smaller sets. Know No Fear is a new starter set with the basic rules and 31 miniatures, First Strike has 15 minatures and is a quick start set. To accompany this new edition, like the launch of Age of $igmar, there is a Getting Started with Warhammer 40,000 magazine with free Primaris Marine. The Age of $igmar one was excellent, so two of these will be heading down to my nephews!
As far as stand alone miniatures go, there are three new Easy To Build set - Primaris Marines, Primaris Marine Reivers, Death Guard and Pox Walkers. Check out the coloured sprues! Takes me back to the old games systems.
There's also a Death Guard paint set - but this is pretty crappy; little sample pot sized paints!? Have a look at almost any other manufacturer and they will give you standard sized paints in themed sets. Why would a Death Guard player even want to buy this? They wouldn't. GW should take the hit, sell this at a bundle deal price and include normal pot sizes. More people would buy it so it's hardly a loss!
In terms of game play, GW have released some Open Play cards. 48 cards split into 5 types to supposedly help you determine the deployment, objectives and special rules for Open Play games. Okay...
In non-miniature related releases, the Horus Heresy: Dark Compliance audio book is out and looks at a world under siege by the forces of the Warmaster. Could be super cool!
