 | White Dwarf this week is really a mixed bag. Leaks are funny things. In some ways they are super exciting and build the anticipation. Then again in other ways it kinds of takes the lustre off it! So when White Dwarf dropped this week, we finally get to see the new terrain piece - shipping containers. I hear you burst with enthusiasm when shipping containers are mentioned... BUT they are pretty cool (trust us like never before) The other releases this week have a certain deja vu quality to them - in that we've seen them before *sigh*. Thankfully, the new releases are not the draw card for this issue because this issue also has the winner of the Horus Heresy Golden Demon with his spectacular Ultramarines Fellblade and Command Squad. This issue also continues the Total War: Warhammer theme with a selection of really beautiful models from the creative team behind the game! Seriously... ++ More After The Jump ++ |
*yaaaawn* - oh sorry, but seriously - with out starting on a negative note - HAVE WE NOT SEEN THESE MINIATURES BEFORE? I'm almost positive that this Broodlord has been released three times - definitely in the Space Hulk games, then again in Deathwatch Overkill and now as an individual model and costing $70 AUD! Okay, so the base is a bit different, but it's pretty much the same model.
I have less vitriol for the Tech-Priest. He was available with a Leman Russ a little while back and now has embarked on a solo career of potentially one hit wonders and probably a marriage to Spice Girl.

How exciting can shipping containers be? Well, not really that exciting - BUT - with such nice detail these could be used for all kinds of things; walls, fortifications, corridors in Space Hulk - I really think these are a great addition to the range. At $85 for 3 plus some crates it does sting a bit (it's cheaper to buy a Predator after all) but the modelling options are really exciting.

Paint Splatter this week looks at the Munitorum Armoured Containers in a pretty good article and then has two colour schemes for the Broodlord but don't actually show the finished version of either. I do wonder if the work experience kid was working on this issue...
A really beautifully painted model in Hall of Fame - this is classic Nurgle Daemon Prince.

Total War: Warhammer is out and about and here are a selection of models by the creative team behind the game. These are really nicely done and well photographed too.

Now roll up, roll up ofr the best game in town - holy chocolate covered marshmallows are these models pretty!! This is the winner of Golden Demon: Horus Heresy, Andy Wardle. You would have seen Andy's stuff before, and these two pieces are just spectacular! This Fellblade has all the grandeur without taking away from the brute force of the Fellblade, and the highly polished look of his Ultramarines Command Squad is superb. This hi gloss look is really taking off and Andy really owns the technique with this unit.
Being a fan of the Cult Mechanicus over here, Tom Warsop's lovely force is really cool. There's some nice weathering, especially on the Kastelans, and the detail on the Imperial Knights is great too. Really cool.

Verdict
This issue isn't a bad one. It has the hobby articles down and doesn't linger on any one thing for too long. I do think there's a few touches missing - like the finished Broodlord models in Paint Splatter - but it's a pleasant read with a fair few extra little articles in the back to keep you reading after the main course.
