If ever you've had a trawl through Shapeways, you may have come across the MASSIVE selection of products from POP Goes The Monkey - from shoulder pads to combat shields and more.
I've been keeping an eye on them since I first saw their War Hounds shoulder pads for my slowly growing War Hounds Legion.
I haven't always had the best luck with 3D printed items, but the lure of these shoulder pads was too much - the War Hounds have a very intricate design, so this was a great way to add character, but in a new way!
Well the parcel arrived today and I have to say - I was blown away!

Well the parcel arrived today and I have to say - I was blown away!
First thing you notice about the POP Goes The Monkey shoulder pads is how fine they are. Printed in a semi-transparent resin, it's a little hard to see the detail, so after giving them a light soapy scrub, it was time to give them a light going over with undercoat.

... and as you can see here - frakkin' amazing detail!
Those hounds are TINY and they retain so much of the original drawing and even the Forge World decals.

Now it's safe to say that my painting is not amazing, but even my ham-fisted attempt at these turned out pretty well. Not being one for bright edge highlights, it's a little hard to see, but the edges are clean and crisp and look amazing in real life.
All in all i'm very very happy with them.
There is a very very slight texture to the flat rounded shoulder, but as soon as the undercoat and a thin coat of paint went on, it disappeared.
These are truly impressive and amazing if you're doing a very detailed Chapter. I have a side project of Consecrators Space Marines, and have now ordered a whole bunch of shoulder pads for them too.
As we've said before, all of the products reviewed here we have bought, so if it's not good, we certainly won't be recommending them - and POP Goes The Monkey gets a 10/10!!
