When Space Marines first appeared there was a much more visible hierarchy when it came to rank..There wasn't just a Sergeant and a Captain and Chapter Master as seems to be the case in 40K these days. Thankfully with Forge World delving into the past for their Horus Heresy series, some of that old lore if back.
You may have read our story on Great Crusade era markings which goes into more depth but as I finished my War Hounds Sergeant yesterday I kept remembering that there used to be rank insignia on the old Space marine Transfer Sheets, but for the life of me I couldn't remember of they came in the original Space marine Paint Set or with the MKVI beaky head marines..
So I went hunting...
+ + More After The Jump + +
Space Wolf, Ultramarine and Dark Angel transfer sheets - notice the old style Space Wolf chapter symbol BTW - MUCH better - more angular and angry looking!
Application & Placement
If done today they would probably be smaller so they could also go on the shoulder pad a bit easier.
Cutting away the chapter symbol from the transfer sheet was easy and clean to do.
I plan on adding one of these to the top of the shoulder pad on my Veteran Tactical Sergeant using the red Space Wolf version. Seems appropriate!
Look What Else I found!
In the beginning things were different, and along the way forgotten.
Until they are born again to see the light of day once more.
