Oh sure there is some new-ish stuff outside of 40k, but if you're getting this issue for 40k, well wait until tomorrow and just pick up the new game! SO... why did Games Workshop hold this off? We're pretty sure it was the game play walk through, that or because they're mean!
++ More After The Jump ++
Yes we get a look at the new Primaris Marines and the Plague Marines from the Dark Imperium boxed set, plus an overview on each of the new Index books and of course the gaming accessories to accompany the new game, but believe it or not, Blood Bowl, Age of $igmar and Forge World take the cake for some of the newest gear! I know.... Not only do we get to see the new Goblin teams for Blood Bowl, there's also Skirmish for Age of $Igmar (including the new games mat released the other week) and then there's the new Forge World additons to the Adeptus Custodes and Thousand Sons range. Forge World are really hitting it out of the park these days, and those new Sagittarum Guard are SWEET! Oh yes, and the Moritats are there too...

In video game news, Dark Future continues to make a comeback. I'm not even sure many people are aware of the Dark Future past and Games Workshop, but this game looks kind of fun. This is of course from the days when Games Workshop totally ripped off other people's IP - how times change... and yet don't

In Blood Bowl news, there is a new comic series from Titan Comics! One of the variant covers is a remake of an old piece of artwork, which is super cool to see! Also in comic news, the Eisenhorn: Xenos comic is on the way, so if you're a fan of the novels and are waiting fore the new video games, here's a prequel.

I have to say this was a little disappointing as far as Designers Notes go. You know we love Designers Notes here, but with so much already out there, this was all known. To be fair it does expand on many of the short articles from the Games Workshop website, but don't expect a wealth of information.
The Space Marines Mark X armour gets a look in next with a nice breakdown of the new elements. SO nice to see the MKIV helmet get a good run again. Fear not Chaos villains, Nurgle also gets a look in with a look at the Plague Marines and the Pox Walkers. The 'Eavy Metal Showcase gives a whole lot of Chapters painted up from your traditional ones to two Successor Chapters - the Blood Ravens (hello Dawn of War) and the Black Templars.
-
Then we get an interesting walk through of the turn phases in a game, but done in real time as they explain the new rules to some of players. It's not badly done at all.
-
Next is a look at four gamers and how they will use their armies in the new 8th Edition - Tyranid, Tau, Chaos and Blood Angels. Probably a good starting point if you field on of these forces.
-
Defence of Konor is the new upcoming campaign for 8th Edition and it's presented here as a Battle Report.
-
Then there are some lovely miniatures from the Golden Demon: Horus Heresy.
-
Legions of the Realms looks at a few of the Age of $igmar armies from the Games Workshop offices.
-
The return of the indepth The Ultimate Guide To... looks at Khorne in the Age of $igmar universe. These articles are good value and give you a nice look at some of the troops and motivations of certain armies.
-
Imagists and Illuminators takes a look 30 years of Warhammer art.. It's not specific on particular artists, but is not a bad look back at how the look has changed - even though some of the uglier periods have thankfully been forgotten. It does have a small panel for Wayne England who died last year which is great as he really did add so much to the universe.
-
Art of War is more on the art of the Warhammer Worlds, but nothing really new.
-
Harvey Snape's Harlequins get a look in. They have to be the hardest army to paint, so pat on the back to Harvey for a great looking force!
-
Paint Splatter takes on the new Space Marine Primaris Captain in Garvis armour, the Lord of Contagion plus a few of the details on the Pox Walkers.
-
Temporal Distort looks at White Dwarf 207 from 1997 - when design was ugly! As we've mentioned previously, this section either needs to be bigger or not at all because these pictures are so small there;'s no real point!
-
Finally, in the Readers Models section there's some nice submissions, including some awesome OSL work by Hon Ho on an Imperial Fists Space Marine. Pity the picture is so small! Excellent work.
++ Verdict++
As far as the issue goes, what you see is what you get. Nothing to write home about.
