Ever since our review of the Frostgrave Soldiers Plastic Boxed Set we've had feedback through the site and the Facebook about the lack of weapons variety in the set. With 20 figures that was always going to be a challenge and for the most part this is an excellent box - BUT here's a way to give your Frostgrave soldiers just a little bit more thanks to the excellent Perry Miniatures plastic medieval kits! If you're not familiar with the Perry's they are two brothers who shot to fame making the original Bretonnians (among other things) for Games Workshop. They were some of the best minis GW have ever produced, so when the Perry's left to form their own miniature company it was always going to be quality! Who knew by swapping some parts this would happen? |
Perry Miniatures make some of the best historical miniatures out there - from medieval to Napoleonic to more modern conflicts, their miniatures are true scale, well detailed and able to be ranked up for massed infantry engagements, as per the rules of the genre. Being a True Scale (or Historical Scale if you prefer) they are more realistic than the Heroic Scale that Games Workshop use and even North Star Miniatures are using for Frostgrave - so stun me with a 2x4 when testing out parts to make my Frostgrave guys more heavily armoured and the Perry Miniatures parts fritted like a glove - looking to scale and even blending perfectly with the already existing troops! To the left are two Frostgrave soldiers from the plastic boxed set. As you can see they are well detailed and have pretty dynamic posing - both these poses I'm really happy with and how cool is that wide-brimmed helmet? The Frostgave soldiers (they can be made as soldier or thugs or whatever really) don't have any armour apart from some helmets and a few shields - Frostgrave is more about adventurers than it is about armies - BUT what if you wanted to add a little flair, a bit of character to some of them, orf just have a few more heads and arms to play around with? Well... |
As you can see, he fits in perfecllty with his companions!
