During World War 1, as trench warfare reached it's ultimate form, the German High Command ordered 500,00 Grubenpanzer body armour sets for their front line troops.
They were a very simple construction, basically 4 armoured plates pieced together with leather straps.
It provided limited protection - certainly from small arms and bayonets - but machine guns cut through therm easily.
I wonder, looking at the recent Militarum Tempestus Scions, if Games Workshop took some inspiration from the idea of this form of body armour on a modern battlefield. Read on....
