NOT Failcast Legion MKIII Despoiler Squad Review

A few weeks back I got a sizeable order from NOT Failcast to have a look at a wide variety of their stock. NOT Failcast have to be one of the larger recasters out there, and as recasting becomes more and more popular, it's important that we keep on top of what's out there.
Today I've got the Legion MKIII Despoiler Squad in all it's glory!

NOT FailCast have so far impressed with all their offerings, but those sets have generally been pretty small. This is the largest set we've looked at so far with 5 fully kitted out troops with full weapons load.

The first thing you notice is the quality of the moulds - all crisp and clean with few imperfections.

All the detailing is there and very few if any mould lines.

There is a bit of flash, which on NOT Failcast kits is generally very thin sheets of plastic. This is however where I found the first imperfection. The collars around the back of the MKIII torsos were quite thin - not broken, not flexible, just a bit thin. I have however got Forge World MKIII torsos that had then broken, so maybe it's just a flaw in the original design itself.
You can see the detail on the torsos is good however with no mould slippage or miscasting.

The sides of the torsos are a tad messy with the resin channels obviously having flowed through here. This is very easily fixed up however and hasn't damaged the piece itself.
The bottom of the backpacks had the most amount of excess plastic, but having cut massive amounts of resin off the Forge World Sicaran Battle Tank, it seems it's just part of the process. The detail on those backpacks is really nice BTW, certainly better than some of the Chinese recasters I've tested.

Finally I wanted to show you something interesting - the lack of mould lines or mould slippage.
OI have a number of Forge World kits with some quite bad slippage (50% of my Volkite Calivers are almost useless) and there is of course the tell-tale Forge World mould lines - these lack them!
Maybe NOT FailCast trim them pre-casting or maybe I'm blind, but it's a nice bonus.

Verdict

The Legion MKIII Despoiler Squad set is nice and at half the price of the Forge World version, this would be a great way to build your MKIII army. The Despoiler set itself I find a bit static, but the quality of NOT FailCast work can't be argued. As I said earlier, I have compared this to some Chinese recasters and found this to be better on the whole, even if NOT FailCast are more expensive than some.
If I was looking for a cheaper alternative to build an army, this would certainly be one I wouldn't' be passing up..
