Using a recaster isn't something I usually do, generally because I'm worried about quality, but when I saw the cool Eldar/ Dark Eldar models from NotFailCast I just had to give them a go, not because they are good quality versions of GW product, but because the design was exactly the opposite of that - something different! To be fair, they look incredibly similar to the Protos from Starcraft (right), but they're not GW & could make interesting Tau Auxiliaries! So while I was there, in the interest of a full and fair review, I also grabbed a Sister of Battle to see what their casting was like. I don't paint Sisters of Battle so it really wouldn't matter - it's disposable. |
Eldar & Dark Eldar Bodies & Heads Set
One of them was broken, but it's a very easy fix.
I was surprised how good the quality of these heads are, with no mould lines and fine detail.
The quality of the plastic/ resin is very good. Fine and clean but also strong and not thin in any places.
You can see the level of detail and the dynamic pose. I'd really like to see more of these produced!
If you're looking for alternate Dark Eldar or Eldar or new Tau Auxiliaries, then these are great - i'd recommend them for anyone looking for something new to paint!
Sisters of Battle Sample Miniature
Without entering this debate as such, I did get this sample figure to see what the casting was like, and surprisingly it's pretty good.
It's different to the above figures - more glossy and a bit more fragile. The figure I got had the front of the Melta broken off, but that's just a glue-job!
From what I can see the detail is good, crisp and without any horrible extra mould lines or obstructions.
Not super-cheap, but an interesting alternative IF you can overlook intellectual property, and that's only something you can decide.
I really like the Eldar & Dark Eldar Bodies & Heads Set - so for am it was a positive experience all around!
One reviewer says that parts of it were a bit soft, so I would be curious to see what they are actually like.
