| The Eldar have been with Warhammer 40k from the beginning. I remember I had a choice of the plastic Space Marines or the lead Eldar. I went with the Space Marines because they were plastic, but if I was a kid again and these new Eldar were in plastic, how my hobbying world would have been different. To coincide with the release of these rebooted Eldar miniatures, the first of at least two waves, Games Workshop put up two articles this morning featuring Jes Goodwin, the person behind this singular vision of an alien faction. One is titled 'How do you Improve on Perfection?', a comment on the Eldar race themselves, as well as the amazing deep work Jes Goodwin has done to bring this faction to life over 30+ years. Anyone who owns either of the sketchbooks (and it's surprising GW haven't brought them back out for this release), they are amazingly detailed and beautifully done. The mighty Eldar, now the Aeldari, are back with a really amazing update to Jes Goodwin's original sculpts. If you did have a read of the links above you would have seen him mention that this is the level of detail he always imagined, so to finally see this in miniature form is just amazing.
Lets start with the large Codex: Aeldari, which comes in F*ck Slaanesh Collectors' Edition and Boney Boney Armour Standard Edition. Bringing all the Aeldari factions together - except the Dark Eldar/ Drukhari, this is a one-stop-shop for fans of the space elves. As with the last reboot to the Aeldari range, there is a collection of this week's releases in the form of the Wanderers of the Stars, which comes with a print of the Codex cover. Previous releases has a Jes Goodwin print, and if that had been the case this time... well this set may have been a must-buy! The venerable Warlocks get a much needed update with this set of two minis, which includes all sorts of options so a good set to add to your kitbashing collection. Probably one of the oldest plastic GW kits still in production has now been replaced with the Guardian Defenders/ Storm Guardians combi-kit, which also has a tonne of extra bits in it. The heavy hitters of the Aeldari and their lord are next with the amazing Maugan Ra miniature and his Dark Reapers, who - for the first time - include some weapons options for the squad leader and some bare heads. The Aeldari Codex doesn't just cover the Aeldari, but also the Ynnari, so we finally get to buy the main characters from that faction separately - The Yncarne, Yvraine and the fearsome Visarch. Want to field these sleek dealers of death? Well you'd better get your hands on the Aeldari Dice Set and the Datacards so you have all the tricks up your sleeve.
This week also sees the pre-order for the latest McFarlane Toys Action Figures, with the Raven Guard Assault Intercessor Veteran Sergeant, the Artist Proof versions of the Space Marine Reiver with Grapnel Launcher, Ymgarl Genestealer, Ork Big Mek and the Ork Meganob with Shoota all on offer.
