Anyone familiar with this picture (left) of the Horus Heresy-era World Eater in Mk IV plate with the spikey shoulder pads would undoubtedly thought how cool those shoulder pads are. Well I found a company that not only produce those shoulder pads but also a number of others, including true-scale and Terminator. Master Crafted Miniatures is run by Ben Calvert-Lee who has sculpted for other miniatures companies as well as his own and when I first saw the site I was impressed with the small range of conversion parts as well as original sculpts of miniatures - but it was the shoulder pads that caught my eye. Some really great designs including these cool spikey ones that would work perfectly in anyone's World Eaters or War Hounds Legion - thus my interest as I try to tie my War Hounds into the partial look of the World Eaters pre-Angron. I bought the spikey shoulder pads (which were cheap as chips!) as a bit of a test for the rest of the line - and I have to say, they are awesome! Such fine detail both in sculpting and moulding. + + More After The Jump + + |
The first thing you notice about the Master Crafted Shoulder pads is how finely detailed they are.
The shapes are perfectly symmetrical, rounded and the surfaces so flat (unlike Forge World - MEOW!!)
In the close-up (below left) you can see the rivets are solid, the ridges are strong and complete, the spikes are perfectly clear and strong with NO flaws in the production process at all! (again unlike Forge World!)
Each shoulder pad is attached to the block by a small semi-circular shape that is strong but easily cut free (below right). Only a small amount of trimming was required once free - and again perfectly straight!.
This is the first after market product I have used on my War Hounds and I couldn't be happier, but Master Crafted Miniatures not only do spikey - they do all kinds of shapes and sizes including the hardest of them all - the chess board style which is a pain to paint. Lamenters fans, your pain is now FINALLY over!
