| What a huge day - we've reviewed Warhammer Visions #3, White Dwarf #10 and now the Miliatarum Tempestus Scions - a kit that surprised a whole lot of people with it's new look for the Imperial Guard. The Militarum Tempestus Scions, according to their designer are the plastic Stormtroopers we have all been waiting for and certainly veer away from the previous Perry Brothers designs and subsequent incarnations. The Militarum Tempestus Scions are broken up across two sprues, spread out in a very similar fashion to the Tactical Space Marines box we reviewed last year.

The heads are arrayed in straight lines for better access and viewing. The beret heads are quite nice, but the expressions lack the detail on the more recent Space Marine or Dark Elf releases.
The masked heads, however, seem to have more to them, with embossed details and deep lines.

Like some other more recent releases, the legs on some of the figures are multi-part. Not entirely sure about this, but lets see how it goes!
The front armour plates look like a cross between World War 1 German body armour and English Civil War Roundheads chest plates. These are pretty damn cool and all different.

The back of the torsos join the front a bit like the Space Wolves plastics. Notice the aerials and spotlight attached to the backs.

The weapon arms are in two parts. The shoulder and upper arm, then the lower arm and hand attached to the weapon. I find this a bit fiddly to paint, but maybe that's just me.
What is interesting here is the numbering system on the back of the arms!
They really want you to make some set poses and match them together in definite pairs.

The flag is beautifully detailed with deep patterns making it easy to paint.
One of my favourite pieces is the power fist. Has there ever been a better power fist? It's to scale with the Astra... Imperial Gaurd and has some cool little details. It's also a bit of a throwback to a smaller Space Marine one including the piping and the elbow joint.
There are few things that day Imperial Guard like an officer with a maul/ stick of some description, and this is a cool stick! The pistol with the chainblade is also hilarious.

Here are the power backpacks, a real flashback to the Perry Brothers idea of the powered weapons of the elite of the Astra Militarum.
The stowed lasguns are nice in their cases. I must admit I was kind of hoping for autoguns, but these up-gunned versions of the standard issue ones are nice too.
The officer's 3-part coat is actually a really amazing touch. Thanks for this Games Workshop. Having the coat like this means you can either have it on a mini or not depending on the look of your army.

Like the other releases from late 2013 and early 2014, they include the stats.
This goes back to the old days where they used to be on the plastic boxed sets.

The Militarum Tempestus Scions is actaully a really nice little kit.
I would have loved to have had 10 rather than 5 in the set, but there you go!
It's hard to argue against this set; they're good looking, nicely moulded, poses are a bit static but that can be changed, and the addition of 10 alternate heads in both styles is more than generous. Add small details like the optional coat and gear, then this is definatley worth a buy.
