 | So - after two and a half years this weekly update is at an end. White Dwarf Weekly is, as of this issue, over! We are told that in September there will be a bigger and better White Dwarf targetted at the hobbyist - less Sales driven and more 'stuff to do'. Sounds good, but it also sounds a lot like what they said Warhammer Visions would be and look how that turned out (insert sad face). Still, we can keep our hopes up and look forward to the 156 page White Dwarf come September 1, but for now it's onto the final White Dwarf Weekly - this week pretty much filling one of the final gaps in the Age of $igmar transformation of the Warhammer world, bringing the Ogres on board. The Ogres are now divided into different groups; the Beastclaw Raiders, Firebellies, Gutbusters, and Maneaters. I don't get the stupid names - why not call them what they call themselves instead of silly names you would expect from a J.K. Rowling book. I just don't get it!! The long and the short of the Ogres reimagining is that the Beastclaws are heading south from their frosty climate to meet up with the Orc forces. Why team up with the Orcs I hear you ask? Well it seems that the Beastclaws are a mercenary force, somewhat notorious for turning on their employers, especially if that employer is tasty - yes, the Beastclaw Raiders are the anti-vegetarians - they get paid in meat. The meat of foe and at times the meat of friend, as some unfortunate Sylvaneth found out....

The smart thing Games Workshop have done here is to finally come across a united look for the Ogres. Sure it owes a bit to Game of Thrones the TV show, but it has finally given them a look that has been a long time coming - the new look for these two miniatures (if you can call them miniature) is case in point about how a united look can really help a range.
The Stonehorn and Thundertusk are a dual kit, in fact according to the Games Workshop Webstore, you can make six different combinations with this kit! It's a mighty model too, certainly great for a character mount and definitely ominous if you find yourself facing a unit of them charging at you. In terms of large models, it's on the lower end of the price scale, retaining it's pre-Age of $igmar $96 AUD.

The Mournfang Pack have had a nice GoT TV show make over too, with these guys really looking a million dollars. Compare it to the old look (right) and you'd have to say that this makeover is very effective. The box size for these has doubled and you now get four in the box giving you more of a complete unit.
The Yhetees are also back and still odd looking models. Great idea and certainly fit into this new look perfectly. Unlike the previous kits, these are Finecast - so like the Yhetees, will melt in the sun! Also in Finecast resin is this Icetooth (still listed on the Webstore as Icebrow Hunter) and Frost Sabres. This is actually two different kits on the same page, Makes sense to have them together, so not sure why they didn't package them together too.
There is of course a Battletome, which at 120 pages is one of the smallest so far. There is also all the new background and some special items and abilities if you field an entirely Beastclaw Raider force.
Unlike some of the other more recent army boxes and the Start Collecting sets, you don't actually save a lot by buying this set which is a shame because it looks super cool in the packaging.

Also getting a push is the White Dwarf subscription - now I discovered something yesterday that you may not know... the new monthly White Dwarf will now come out on a Friday! This is a big deal for hobbyists I think. The usual stroll down to the shops on a Saturday morning to get the White Dwarf and any new releases is now done - it's now a mad dash to the shops after work on Friday before they close. This seems like a mistake to us. We've really gotten used to the routine of Saturday mornings, and to have to shoot in on a Friday in case you miss out is a real pain in the butt. Thus, fellow traveller, we have subscribed to White Dwarf and will no longer be wandering in to pick up the White Dwarf.
I know we've touched on it before, but we are betting the sales will decrease now with (a) a monthly not weekly White Dwarf (b) people now potentially missing out on either the issue or the new releases because of the Friday release window. Seems like a big gamble to us!

Now here's a pretty army - well not really pretty, more gritty and battle hardened! This is Ulrich Ryssel's Novamarines, and boy has he gone to town on the weathering and detail. This Novamarine force has some amazing detail on them, especially the characters and have a look at that battle damage. A lot of time and effort has gone into each Space Marine. Really impressive force.
The Forgefiend is an ominous looking creature, certainly taking it's cues from the early 2000s look of Chaos Space Marines and it still holds up today, despite being around for 4 years. It was based on Jes Goodwin artwork (all praise Jes Goodwin) so is very reminiscent of his design mythos. This article talks to Nic Ho about his part in the design process. Armies on Parade 2016 is on and what an awesome idea it is! This campaign gives us all push to start and finish an entire army from now until October 15th. Here they showcase some of last year's armies.

Verdict
This is a pretty standard issue of White Dwarf. There's a little section up the back about favourite issues of White Dwarf, but that's about it as far as extra content goes.
The revamp of the Ogres is smart and they look amazing in their winter garb.
If you're not into Age of $igmar, then the Novamarines are cool to look at, but there's not much else to the issue. I'd get it to say I had the final White Dwarf Weekly, but if that doesn't appeal, then I would buy it.
