Games Workshop have done incredibly well with their boxed games over the past 2 years - from Necromunda to the latest, Cursed City, they have released some amazing miniatures which have changed the look and feel of the universes they exist in. With Cursed City came a whole new twist, drawing heavily on the fan-favourite setting of Mordheim, this brought in a grittier feel to some of the more recent Age of $igmar glamour and shininess. Cursed City sold out in record time, and this week we can get the miniatures separately - and having just seen the prices - they are some of the most expensive single releases to date, to the point of being exclusionary to the casual buyer. Is this a smart move? Time will tell, but from a distant vantage point, this seems to go counter to the almost weekly cheap starter sets to get people into the game, and maybe create two tiers of hobbyist - those who can afford, and those who can't!
The toaster-worshipping scions of the Omnissiah are back with the brand new Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus, available in both Beep-Boop Collector's Edition and USB Hub Standard Edition, the Adeptus Mechanicus also get a new mini - the Skitarii Marshal, which initially looks underwhelming, but on closer inspection is quite cool. With zero modelling options on the sprue, it's what you see is what you get for this guy. There's also a new Combat Patrol, bringing not only the Dunecrawler back into a set, but also the Kataphrons for some added hitting power. There are of course the usual Datacards and a rather spiffy, if plain, Dice Set.
Cursed City characters are now available separately, at a premium price, so we have Belladamma Volga, First of the Vyrkos, the very spooky Lady Annika, The Thirsting Blade, Kritza, The Rat Prince and the various forms of Radukar; the Beast
and the Wolf plus his posse Radukar's Court. Honestly, the price on the Court is ridiculous... there's also those fluffy love bunnies, the Dire Wolves - which would be so much cooler if not rotting. There's extra troops too, with the older Undead models being repackaged into the Start Collecting! Soulblight Gravelords, but with the amazing new Deathrattle Skeletons models, I'm not sure why you would want these old ones apart from the exclusive Wight King on Skeletal Steed model. In related Undead news, Warhammer Underworlds: Direchasm have an awesome new set, Kainan's Reapers, adding some very dynamic poses to that line.
Now here's a thing, the new Combat Patrol: Space Marines is on pre-order, and unlike the Start Collecting Space Marines, this is all Primaris, potentially ushering in the death knell for the older Alpha-style Space Marines of old. Be interesting to see what the community think of this... There's also the chunkatron Captain with Master-crafted Heavy Bolt Rifle and the Heavy Intercessors (the way Primaris should have always been). Meanwhile the Big Bad in this current edition of 40K have some releases too - Combat Patrol: Necrons is an unusual set, but has some great models in it, the excellent Chronomancer mini is also back and the grizzly Flayed Ones take to the field too. If you prefer skin and spikes, then the Drukhari Lelith Hesperax (bit lackluster compared to the rest of the range) is also available separately.
In books we have Godblight (in whizz-bang Special Edition) and normal hardback, plus the first two in this series Dark Imperium in hardback and Plague War also in hardback.
