 | With news fresh in our minds that the weekly version of White Dwarf will be no more, this week's ritual of heading to the store, and picking up the latest issue was a bit bittersweet. Speaking of bittersweet - Eldar. Are these guys not the emo boys of 40K? How can you not feel sorry for them? They are less like formidable warriors and more like the last remnants with the sads just trying to battle away in fancy sparkly spandex armour. I mean they're cool, but nowhere near as cool as the Dark Eldar! Interestingly, if you're not really aware of the Eldar as such, this week's White Dwarf gives you a look into both of these forces and more. Apart from these deadly dainty warriors, Space Elves if you want to use their original title, there isn't a lot... There's an amazing Undead army by Andrew King, and two new Start Collecting! boxed sets not coincidentally Eldar and Dark Eldar themed. These Start Collecting! sets can be pretty good value - in fact the Dark Eldar one saves you $45 if you get it in this format! Personally I think the Eldar one is pretty boring, but the Dark Eldar set gives you pretty much a core force to use PLUS it includes the very awesome Reaver jet bikes that are some of my favourite miniatures of all time. Great to build and fun to paint! There really needs to be more love for the Dark Eldar.
The next in what can only be described as the longest and bloodiest novel series since Mills and Boon, The Horus Heresy, comes Angels of Caliban which has a dual story - Ultramar and the hunt for Konrad Curze and also Luther who is frankly The Man! Talk about a bad wrap...

Curious about Eldar and their various off-shoots but can't get passed the angst and gnashing of teeth? Well, prevail yourself upon this article. It's quite lengthy and has some pretty neat art. The history of the Eldar can be a tad convoluted, so this is a really nice little primer.
Here's some pretty Eldar art! Not by the Eldar because you couldn't possibly see how special and magical they are, so this is done by humans - all be it very talented humans. As in the previous article, there are Dark Eldar in here, so grab your nipple clamps and get reading.

Andrew King is really just showing off here - not only is this army very well painted, they are also crisp and clean and precise. Often Undead armies seem to be tattered and kind of messy, but these retain a sense of nobility that their former lives would have had and at the same time still has them as... well dead!!
