Black Library produce some really nice books - from the Horus Heresy novels to the Space Marine Battles - the art that accompanies them is top notch, so when the Visions of War book was announced last week I knew I needed it. Visions of War is a compilation of artwork from the pages of Space Marine Battles. The full colour illustrations are accompanied by passages from the book they are taken from giving context to the artwork.. There are also two short stories ‘The Thrill of the Hunt’ by Anthony Reynolds and a ‘Heloth’ by L J Goulding. The illustrations are the usual level or brilliance and printed so crisply they almost jump out of the page. Unfortunately the limitation of books is the binder down the middle which splits the image in two. Makes you wonder if the electronic version might be worth the money! - + + More After The Jump + + |
The armour schemes do match the Chapters in the stories, so that's cool!
Verdict
Do be aware of the art being cut in half by the binder - but there is a centrefold-style illustration too which is really epic! One of my favourite pieces.
The price tag doesn't seem too steep to me, so if you like the art check it out as it's a nice addition to any 40K art book collection.
