Every now and then I can't help but get drawn back in. No matter the new pretties or ideas that pop into my mind, I cant help but go back to my War Hounds. I've noticed a few people now doing them which is good - it was getting pretty lonely over here! As this is a pre-Heresy force (of course the War Hounds had become the World Eaters by the time of the Horus Heresy) I have always wanted to have Volkite weapons. They were reasonably common during the Great Crusade but as the rules don't exist for that time, I have had to mainly use Bolters - BUT there has been the opportunity to use them at times, and a Heavy Support unit is just one of those times. LOOK HOW DAMN SEXY THAT VOLKITE CULVERIN IS!! |
For the Volkite Culverin, I've used the same scheme as on the others; dark metal with flashes of bronze and gold for the power pack (at least that's what I assume that is). I went a little off the restricted palette with the piping so might revisit that, but I did use a different technique with the shoulder trim that I think came out nicely. The base is Balthazar Gold, then an Agrax Earthshade wash, then I used the new Fulgurite Copper for the highlight and rivets. What do you think? Kind of happy with it.
Being the first of his unit, this guy is also sporting the Heavy Support icon on his shoulder which really makes the model I think! Simple and striking.
