Wargame Exclusive (Warex) produce some amazing resin sculpts - from Mechanicum to Battle Sisters, Chaos and Loyalist Space Warriors as well as Necrons, Imperial Army and their awesome Tau range. Some of their sculpts are more... adult, but there is generally a PG version of the same model. You may have see our review of their Rudidium Heads for Space Warriors or maybe one of our updates on their new releases - well today it's another review, this time for one of their Space Warrior conversion sets. - There's something retro about an upgrade set in a conventional blister pack - takes me back to the lead upgrade sets from GW back in the day - and this very tidy little upgrade set is not just simply new weapons or a few shoulder pads, we are talking the entire torso, shoulders, backpack and head all in one blister for five Space Warriors! Warex make a number of Space Warrior Conversion Sets, and this one - the Steel Pattern - is an awesome looking set I just HAD to own! ++ More After The Jump ++ |
The backpack is wider at the top but overall shorter than the traditional one we are used to from similar products from GW and others.
As you can see by the shots, they are super smooth with little or no flash or details obscured.
There is one issue that might have been my fault, but more on that later.
Imagine that storming a ship in zero gravity, or marching across a battlefield under artillery fire, or breaching a city wall as the defenders are cut to pieces as they flee.
Also pictured is the groin armour not previously shown.
Verdict
Overall these are really nice. I am really really pleased with how they look - so full of character. There is one small problem, but this could just be me. The way the spiked shoulder pad is make leaves the resin funnel actually splitting the top riodge of this shoulder pad. Now you can either leave it as a spike, or cut the whole thing out - I think cutting it out in retrospect was a bad look (right). I can't tell on the website how they are supposed to look, but pretty sure this isn't it. I'm sure more careful trimming would have avoided this. Despite that,. the Chaos Iron Space Warrior Steel Pattern Conversion Set gets a massive thumbs up from us! |
