Warhammer Visions #22 - It's Good... No Really!

You may remember last month how I told you I'd pretty much given up on Warhammer Visions being anything but a pretty picture book - it was obvious that Games Workshop weren't going to do anything interesting but recycle the same pictures in a bigger format.
Well I don't know if it'[s that change of head space or not, but this issue actually delivers! 
Sure, there aren't hobby articles or alternate colour schemes or any real writing, but what they have put in are some pretty great and interesting subject choices.
From Kastelan Robot colour schemes, to a wildly contrasting Age of Sigmar Elf army, an amazing showcase of duel-themed models and a really cool Blanchitsu featuring some amazing INQ28 models.
So yes - it's pretty pictures and nothing else, but this month it all just seems to gel for some reason...
Is it worth buying?
Well you'll just have to come and have a look!

Latest Releases looks over last month's releases which were mainly Tau, but I totally forgot about Skarsbrand, the totally misunderstood little flower that he is!
Nothing amazing in terms of new pics here, but they do love their lighting effects - it's starting to look a bit like Ibiza threw up. Speaking of lighting... 

-Yeah, I thinks someone got their lighting or their colour matching a touch wrong here - these Space Wolves look more like Ultramarines in some of these shots. Some of the single ones you can see the blue grey, but a lot (like this one above) they actually look blue! I know that new colour blind kid is nice, but maybe put him in charge of something else next time, because this is pretty bad!

Here's a brief charge through some of the other sections this month... 

My love for the Kastelan Robot (as you may know) is unbound! I think this is a brilliant miniature, and the fact you get two in the box is a real selling point for me! This section shows off some of the great work by Chris Peach and others on not only colour schemes, but also brilliant names. I'm not sure people necessarily understand how these guys fit into the WH40k and WH30K universes - as both friends and foes of the Imperium. 

Blanchitsu this week is an absolute cracker! Not only do we get to see AMAZING conversions and scratchbuilt miniatures from Isaac Tobin, one of the Masters of the INQ28 movement.
Not just some amazing bitz swapping, but also some straight out scratchbuilding including two amazing looking ships (top left and bottom left) which go back to the fine tradition of vehicles being made out of shampoo bottles and the like. Also have a look at those Space Marines (bottom right) and sniper (top right) attached to his Navigator's retinue. Awesome stuff!

Now here's some really beautiful scenes - for many years Mark Lifton has made dueling scenes for Golden Demons and the like - here is just a selection! The movement on the models is so lifelike and fluid. The Lizardman vs Tomb King (below right) and Kroot vs. Tyranid (below centre) is a prime example. so impressive. Would just love to see the WIPs of these and see how that is done!
Amazing amazing work. This is a huge highlight of this issue.

Finally this month is a rehash of the Paint Splatters from White Dwarf showing the colours of the T'au Sept. Nothing new here really...

Verdict

For me this issue was about highlights that made a good overall issue. Sure there was stuff that was just okay or even 'meh', but the duelist dioramas, the INQ28 Blanchitsu and the Kastelans not only inspired but really impressed - and I think that's what Warhammer Visions is all about.. or meant to be!
