I must admit it is with delight that I can report that The Ginger Fury is now over. Those little men with their flapping loin cloths are no longer the entire and all-consuming interest of the White Dwarf crew. We can move onto other things - namely Chaos. Chaos has an interesting place in White Dwarf, not only is it popular with the readers and varied enough not to get too repetitive (ignoring the 28,000 mentions of Nurgle last year), Chaos is also excellent filler, and that's what this issue of White Dwarf felt like. Maybe it's me - maybe it's Age of $igmar - but I was not enthralled. Chaos does play a big part in this issue, but in reality, a large part of the Chaos range is pretty outdated now and in dire need of some new minis. Personally I think the Chaos Warriors are excellent and eternal, but the Marauders, for example, are pretty old hat now. So was this issue any good? + + More After The Jump + + |
Age of $igmar is certainly keeping an ongoing narrative with all the forces slowly emerging after The End Times. This book continues the story and also includes 41 Warscrolls for the forces involved.

Incidentally, I saw the Grand Alliance: Chaos today and it's a monster of a book!
If you're into Chaos (as a gamer rather than a hobbyist) then this book is packed with stuff - mainly Warscrolls, but still there is a lot in there!!

Back to Balance of Power - it's also nice to see that the forces lining up in this next book aren't all gold.
That look was wearing pretty thin frankly and the new schemes on the Eternals really show the miniatures off to their full potential.
Incorporating the core Chaos units of the pre-Age of $igmar releases, this is an amazing box for any Chaos player. Slaves of Darkness was also good in terms of $ value, but from my calculations, these miniatures would be around $400 AUD to buy separately, but only $280 AUD if bought in this set.
Have to say the choice of miniatures in here is really good too. This is a stonking force!
I'm not entirely sure if you would need anything else for some time as a gamer. Having a powerful Lord on a mount as well as the mounted units plus the rest is really good!
I am impressed and if I didn't already have the Knights and Warriors would be lining up for this one.
There is also a new Audio Drama, Parting of the Ways, this one heralding the return of the Space Wolves.
Speaking of Space Wolves, there are whispers that this could be the beginning of the 40k The End Times.
From this small preview it looks promising that's for sure.

Alpha Legion also get these awesome looking new minis from Forge World. These upgrade bitz are so cool! I just can't get into the Alpha Legion colour scheme or I'd be all over it!
Many moons ago it used to be black, but that was in the dim distant past!
It sounds like an BDSM club to me, but sure, I guess Slaanesh is involved so it's appropriate!
This is quite a nice little article talking about both the Start Collecting! Boxed Set and Lord Heldrath's Chaos Deathtide released next week.
Verdict
How about a look at different colours of Chaos Warriors or how to paint cool banners for your forces or how to do tattoos on your Marauders.
It just feels like a missed opportunity to me so I wouldn't rush out to buy this frankly.
Pot of Paint vs. White Dwarf
Pot of Paint for me!

Oh and don't forget to go and check out Grand Allainces Chaos in the stores today. I thought it was pretty cool - even as a non-gamer mostly. It may just end up in my library yet!
