| So last week seemed like am out of place Tyranid release, but as we get into this week it looks like we have a second major Tyranid release this year. One would question why, but here we are! This week sees the release of the Tyrannocyte/ Sporocyst & Mucoloid Spore kit, part two of this second wave of Tyranids. I have to say "yawn"... BUT there's actually a few other releases this week that may pip your interest. Dark Vengeance was a really popular expansion with some great miniatures - well this week we get a preview of two sets incorporating those miniatures. Also this week, the build up to the rumoured Blood Angels release continues with two Flesh Tearers books, PLUS an interesting pic hidden amongst this issue. - + + More After The Jump + + |
The Tyrannocyte is, effectively, a drop pod. The Tyranids use it as a transport for planetary conquest - but the nastiness doesn't stop there. Once empty of it's cargo, this becomes a tank! | 
The Sporocyst is an agent of chemical and biological warfare. Deploying with the main force it burrows into the surface and release spores and noxious gases to decimate enemy forces. |
The fact this is called a Dark Vengeance Expansion is interesting considering the amount of miniatures actually from the older Dark Vengeance set. I mean yes, these are Dark Angels and Chaos guys - but they aren't the miniatures included in the Dark Vengeance set! Yes, you get some Cultists, but would have been great to have the Dark Angels or the Chaos Space Marines from the set in these expansions.
There is also a Nurgle force which looks pretty good - but the big thing in this spread are the Flash Tearers books from Black Library. As we spoke about yesterday, it looks like the Flesh Tearers are being spotlighted prior to the Blood Angels release later this year. They're probably my favourite Blood Angels Successor Chapter, so it'll be really cool to read more about them - even if GW make them rogue.
The Forge World section has two great miniatures in it - the Dark Mechanicus (who obviously stole his ride from The Matrix!) and the Triaros Armoured Conveyer, which is an awesome vehicle! Apart from the twin-linked Volkite weapons, this is also armed with a Mauler bolt cannon - is that a new weapon?

I do love how Sprues and Glue delves into the bits box to come up with some really interesting stuff. This week it's Tyranids... again! I sense a theme!
Two really great looking miniatures in 'Eavy Metal this week - a Dwarf Lord and probably one of the better Space Marine Centurions around. The Centurion is a bloody ugly model. I don't know quite what possessed them to build it - we already have Terminators! Anyway, this paint job does redeem it somewhat!
Paint Splatter also looks at Tyranids, but this time the use of Shades and Washes.

As said previously, the Flesh Tearers are getting a nice little bump at the moment, including being featured in the foreground (if somewhat blurred) of one of the Tyranid shots in this issue. Two interesting things in this shot; now I'm assuming they are the metal shoulder pads but wouldn't it be cool if these were part of a plastic Blood Angels set! Also notice the little chalice by the side of the Space Marine at the front... could this be part of the rumoured Blood Angels box?

Verdict
Again, a very single agenda issue - Tyranids. You would think considering this is the second Tyranid wave this year that there would be some other things in this issue to really draw you in, but there aren't!
Sure, news of the Flesh Tearers books is nice and the Dark Vengeance sets exist, but without articles on how to paint Dark Angels or a wider look at Eldar Wraithlords this issue is pretty disappointing.
I'm sure Tyranids excite someone, so they will be rolling on the floor like an overly tired panda, but for the rest of us... 'meh'!
