The End Times are upon us and by the Power of Grayskull are they throwing it out there!! Surprisingly though, there are no new miniatures releases this week in the world of WHFB - but fear not, there are some new Hobbit miniatures. So mortgage the cat and you might just be able to afford one. This issue of White Dwarf, apart from the Hobbit minis, mainly concentrates on the new The End Times: Khaine book and some tantalising background. Lets put it this way - the High Elves are fighting amongst themselves, so one of them goes and gets Khaine's sword, Widowmaker, thus aligning himself with the God and Khaine's followers (on all sides of the Elvish spectrum) come flocking to that army. Boo-Yah! Enter lots of conversions and fun for all the Elven players! Apart from Elves, there's also a 40K battle report. Do You Want To Know More? - + + More After The Jump + + |
These minis look pretty good - not sure why Thranduil is doing a bit of interpretive dance (right) but he's doing a bang up job.
An squeezed down the bottom of this section is a preview of the new Horus Heresy novel. "Templar".. Imperial Fists vs a Word Bearers warband. This is supposed to also give us a look inside the process of a loyalist realising he will have to kill fellow Asatres who have turned on the Empire.
Not sure why it's buried in this section!
Interestingly the End Times: Khaine not only includes a book of background and a rules, but also some changes to magic - 22 in fact, one for each magic lore in the game!
Also next week is the novel to accompany the release and The End Times Spell Battle Magic cards.
Both of these look really cool, and having the other minis around them gives a good idea of scale.
BTW, is that Witch King on the cover and in this article the old Ally Morrison model?
That has to be 20 years old! If ever there was need for a new miniature with a new book - this would be it!
This image is of kitbashed heroes put together for the newly-allied Elven forces either under the Khaine banner or not. These are actually pretty simple but really effective. I think there might be some great hero and commander models coming out of this story arch.
Elves are such an enigmatic race, it makes sense for them to have these kind of flamboyant leaders.
Verdict
There is no Paint Splatter this week or any conversion workshops (odd considering the nature of this picture above) but there you go.
Overall it's a quick read - took me about 15 minutes cover to cover.
