While seemingly most people in the world are out Xmas shopping there are a valiant band of true believers in our society who still cling to their Saturday morning ritual of heading into their local Games Workshop to pick up the latest issue of White Dwarf. It's a gamble that sometimes pays off and other times it's not as successful. With the massive Smaug model on the front cover this week, the focus would seemingly not be on the usual 40k/ WHFB suspects. But how wrong you would be, because despite the cover, there are some tid-bits inside to attempt to cater to all. Notice the use of the word "attempt"... This is a bit of a strange issue with some exclusive content and then there's the card games... + + More After The Jump + + |
Instead of alternate colour schemes or army showcases or Sprues and Glue or Paint Splatter or really anything to get you interested in the actual hobby, there are two long 'minigames' to both enthrall and bore you to tears! This one centres on the model too expensive for most people to afford. Good plan GW!
I'm sorry, but am I the only one with a Care Factor of Zero on minigames?
This time it's at least accessible to the general public - the mighty Carnosaur kit hunts down the Skaven. Check out how naff the Skinks look next to these detailed models!
This section also includes some shots of Necrons that may just give us a clue to upcoming releases - but more on that and a bit of a mystery later...
Verdict
I think the Games Workshop Xmas party might have taken its toll on the writing staff, because this is pretty poor comparatively.
Just give us some army showcases and some WIP stuff if you've got nothing to write about!
The Necron Gun Mystery Continues
People have been pointing to this picture (left) to say that a new Necron Warriors box is on the way as the guns are different from the originals.
BUT in the very same issue of White Dwarf in the background (right) you can see the old guns are present.
(A) Could the new Necron Warriors kit give you the option of to do new or old?
(B) Could GW have used older models for one of the shots? (unlikely with the amount of teasing they do!)
I wouldn't be surprised if there is the option to do either or even both! The poses look the same, so maybe not a huge change but an extra sprue with that armament option?!
The mystery deepens - but all will be revealed in the fullness of time.
Let me know - love to hear your thoughts...
