Greetings and Seasonal Salutations Fellow Travellers! Apologies for the lateness of this review. Usually we get this up first thing Saturday morning (AUST time) to give you a look inside White Dwarf for the week and work out if your hard-earned should be shelled out or if you should save up for the next big release. Well this week seasons obligations get in the way - but for posterity here's a belated look inside White Dwarf #48. Now you'd think that with this being the highest spending time of the year Games Workshop would go out with a bang. One exciting release for people to grab onto and potentially shell out all their cash on - gift vouchers, cash from Nan, your siblings pocket money you stole from their piggy bank. You'd think that., right? Oh how wrong you'd be... it's flashback time! - + + More After The Jump + + |
Knowing the lead time before publication we get models that are months old being touted as New Releases, very few of them painted and pretty statically shown. This is Forge World, come on guys...
Still the two kits shown this week are good ones, despite the boring photography.
I'd love to see this section much MUCH better next year. There's certainly scope!
It's actually interesting looking back and realizing how much product was released and also how quickly they come and go! They are THE big thing, then they drop off for something else to appear. This year saw two Tyranid waves (kind of appropriate that!) and do you remember the Wood Elves (and their awful Codex)? The excitement of the Imperial Knights (still one of the best vehicle releases in Games Workshop history) Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Astra Militarum.
The pictures in this section are very well chosen considering the bevvy they would have to choose from.
The image White Dwarf have chosen to accompany this section with is a cracker. Really evocative.
I assume this is based on some of the real life dog fighting in the Korean War and is quite a cool idea if you like this sort of thing.
Still, go at it!
Verdict
Granted, there is stuff in here, but a hint of 2015 would have been nice - a splash page of Necrons, maybe other hints of things to come. Just something to get the blood pumping.
