Good morning, Saturday! It's White Dwarf day and it breaks with tidings of evil and foreboding in the shape of Terminator... I MEAN NECRONS!! I like the Necrons (as I've said before) and their story of pure unapologetic evil. I mean the humans are evil but in the name of righteousness, the Orks are evil in the name of just being dumb, the Tyranids are evil because they are hunting for gene seed (there's a bit of super-old canon), and the rest are evil in their various ways - but the Necrons are a special kind of evil and giving them a bit of a pump seems fair. This week sees Necrons dominate White Dwarf, but not in a totally selfish way. They have a soft spot for the Hobbit, so let them share the issue with some new releases and other bits and peices. The Necron release is pretty small really, but for them there is a whole new force organisation structure. Whispers are this will permeate other forces too - who knows! So - is this White Dwarf worth a look? + + More After the Jump + + |
Everything about this miniature screams power - from the stance to the scyth... plus he's not hunched over like someone shoplifting a packet of biscuits under their coat.
Personally I would have liked to see a miniature more like the one on the cover of the last Codex, but this one is a great looking mini and being plastic, very convertible.
Nagash gets a run, and The Tomb Awakened army box is also here.
BUT the thing that stood out for me is the new Malus Darkblade novel. The uber-cool Dark Elf himself is back after a long-awaited rest. This should be awesome!
Notice in the Raising The Legions section there the Necron Warriors are listed, so it looks like we won't be getting a new box of those. Sad story!
(Incidentally, "Decurion" was a short-lived rank used by GW for Space Marine officers in the pre-Forge World Horus Heresy universe. The use of Roman ranks still exists with others, but the Decurion has gone!)
This section goes into quite a bit of detail and includes some cool shots of alternate colour scheme and bits of history along the way. There's also this rather stunning pictorial example of what the Necron formations look like.
Not sure any of these schemes really grab me - but Necrons seem hard to get a good scheme for.
