 | How much gold paint can one magazine take? Well this issue of White Dwarf continues the theme of golden knights in the service of Sigmar as we delve further into the ever changing universe of Warhammer (Age of Sigmar). I must admit, I am wondering what they will drop first, the "Warhammer" bit or the "Age of Sigmar" bit - I'm banking on the latter as more books, characters and story arcs are added. Have you been like me and having great fun looking at the epic pictures of miniatures trying to spot the new ones that haven't been featured yet? Well I think I've found one too... Apart from mini spotting, this issue launches not only a new commander, some new scenery, but it's also the debut of the fifth Chaos God - The Horned Rat... urgh. The forces of Sigmar grow stronger with this mighty warrior who not only has a pretty arrogant looking pet, but by the look of that lantern is obviously afraid of the dark. Nagash lurks there, so that's understandable!
This is an imposing model! He's very ornate, and from painting one of the Liberators from the boxed game last week, he would likely be a joy to paint. If you haven't painted any of the Sigmar stuff yet, it really is rewarding once you pick out all those details.
Now his buddy, the Gryph-Hound is so cool! The sculptor has perfectly combined the haughty look of a bird of prey and the sleek cat-like lower body. Great looking miniature!
The kit is a bit pricey though, so expect this guy to hopefully pack a punch on the battlefield too!

 | The first painted images of the Realmgates we saw had a green/ blue kind of spiritual energy coming out of them - not dissimilar to the effect used so well on Nagash and his dudes. But this week Games Workshop have changed that and started using yellow (left)... which to one of our keen-eyed observers says looks like melted cheese! Forge World have done a pretty good job the last few weeks, and this week it's the conversion kit for the Daemon Engine of Khorne - probably the way the kit should have been made in the fist place! This is an amazing and dramatic change to the Games Workshop version. This is very very tempting indeed!
The other Forge World release is Roboute Gulliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines. This is a very ornate model and many of the paint jobs I've seen so far haven't been that great, but this one is a cracker showing this model in all it's glory. This has to be seen!

Who are Chaos? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
Unfortunately this is where I get a bit lost in this new Age of Sigmar. There are the traditional Gods of Chaos, who get their own spread here, but as you may have heard Slaanesh is missing and his followers leaderless. Slaanesh is the man/woman (sexy times!!) - Bring Slaanesh back!!
This plot point had better be good because the next thing they did is [++CENSORED++].
So it seems that the Horned Rat is now a God. *SIGH*
Really? He's just a big rat!
What about Khoine? This could split the already fractious relationship of the united Elves (Aelf). Khaine's cool and he has a big sword! The Horned rat to me just seems like an off-shoot of Nurgle.

'Eavy Metal brings the best minatures together for us to perve at (and with Slaanesh gone there is far less perving going on in this universe!). I tell you what - the paint job on this Chimera has to be seen to be believed. I would kill to see this in the real (Slaanesh again... Geez, running on a theme)!!

Apart from a cool picture there is very little reason for this spread... humans are fighting Chaos and worship Sigmar the God-King.
Sprues and Glue gives an overview of the Ophidian Gates and some of the details and ways to construct it. It's totally modular, dude!!!
Meanwhile, Warscrolls for the Scroll-King, Scrolls for the God of Scrolls.
Look - if the rats can have a God in the pantheon then so can the scrolls, alright?!

Paint Splatter Extra, the Paint Splatter you have when you're not having a Paint Splatter gives a very simple tip for painting your terrain. BTW, if you add a little tan to your grey when drybrushing rocks it makes them look more real, more earthy. Free tips, that's what we do here.

Miniature Teaser?
So the game of "spot the new mini" is really kicking up steam. My local Games Workshop is full of people looking but today I think I may have found something.... look at these Prosecutors flying along there - they have spears and different helmets!! YAY. They look cool.
That piece of scenery in the foreground with the big skull on it is new too, but not as cool as flying dudes with spears and shields. It's like a 1980's dream come true and Hawk Men are all the rage!

Verdict
After the excellent issues of the last few weeks that launched this brave new adventure, this issue seems a bit naff. There is beginning to be a lot of repetition in background and the momentum seems to be slowing down. With weeks and weeks of new releases to come, this may not be good news.
Mind you if those Prosecutors are in next week's White Dwarf... eeek squeeel!!
The hot money is on the ranged Liberators though, so don't hold your breath.
