 | Tell you what - the other Gods of Chaos must be getting mighty jealous of Khorne these days with the amount of love the super-agro deity has been getting. This and last year have seen multiple Khorne releases, while Nurgle comes in at second, Tzeentch and Slaanesh don't even get in the race - in fact the new kid on the block, The Rat King, is probably up there challenging Nurgle for second place. This week sees the preorder for The Exalted Deathbringer, a likely lad with an eye for blood and a head full of horns that would make any Beastman jealous. Speaking of which, have you noticed a distinct lack of Khorne-aligned Beastmen? Why?? Where did they go? Surely not all to Nurgle... I have reason to believe this is what happened to Slaanesh - one wrong joke to this guy (above) and Slaanesh's finely honed athletic physique was probably ripped asunder - never to be pretty again!

The Exalted Deathbringer is basically the stage between being one of Khorne's best fighters and the sizeable transformation into a Bloodthirster. As you can see, the growing pains are pretty unattractive!
When I first saw this figure early last week I wasn't too sure about it. It didn't scream "Khorne" to me. Sure it screamed "I have horns, can I smash your skull in", but was a bit of a departure from the usual bronze armoured champions of Khorne that have been around for years. Then when I saw him today he grew on me, like a blessing from Nurgle, and a bloom of love appeared in my heart - but when I went online and saw the sprue (below), a moment of despair grew; no alternate head/ arms/ weapons and no poseability!
Welcome to the Age of Sigmar where it's statue vs. statue. *SIGH*. It's still cool though... for a statue!

No further illustration of this being a single release week is greater then this being the second section of the book - a look at repackaged Nurgle and two books... Still, one is White Scars-themed, so silver lining!
Now this is cool! A nice clear photo shoot on the Forge World Chaos Knight. All the pieces are very clear and look really great. This is a nice change for the Forge World section and includes a good write up too!
There's then this quite extensive spread on the forces of Khorne and some of his Champions. Fair bit of repetition here, but the mini bios on some of the Champions are interesting.
'Eavy Metal goes Tau with two great models including a lovely splinter camo job on a Tau Piranha.
Paint Splatter gives a few good tips on that dark skin tone on The Exalted Deathbringer - rest is repetition...
Hey - did you know there is a God called Nurgle? You may not have heard of him before. Well if you haven't, here's a fair few pages all about his forces, who (coincidentally) are re-released next week in new packaging. The newer Nurgle models are very cool, but we have seen this all before!
Really pleased to see that for a 3rd week in a row we get some more of Armies on Parade. Always good to see what people are doing, especially if it's going towards a much larger force by the end of the year!
... and finally here is the Warscroll for Old Horn Head, as his friends call him.
VERDICT
We were chatting about this the other week, but it really does feel like Age of Sigmar has lost all momentum now. To spend so much time on release after release for one force (Sigmars' Gold Space Marines) and then slow it down with two staggered Khorne releases seems silly.
Where are the mass influx of new kits? Where is the buzz of a new army to build? It's not there!
Think you're dropped the ball on this Games Workshop.
This issue didn't grab me at all. Buy some paint instead!
