The recent weeks of Tau releases have been break-neck! Each week they have hit the target and this week is no exception, with the release of the new Tau Battlesuit Set and the Tau Commander - both updates on two venerable and iconic kits. In this week's White Dwarf, they both get an update with the Commander gaining height plus added articulation, and the Crisis Battlesuits now being able to bust out some moves with full articulation as well - hips, legs, arms and more - and for what seems like an unusually fair price! Also in this week's issue we get Tau books, including a Painting Guide, a rehashed Codex, decals, more minis, Data Cards (for White Scars and Raven Guard too), Forge World's massive new Mechanicus vehicle and a partridge in a pear tree. It certainly feels like it! So - with all that in mind - is this week a Pot of Paint Week or White Dwarf Week? Come have a look... + + More After The Jump + + |
"Aaaaaah....", I hear you say! Well Padwan Learner, let me inform you of thus; this kit can be made as the much-hyped XV86 Coldstar Battlesuit or the armoured XV85 Enforcer Battlesuit! Let the sexy times begin...
With new articulation we have seen across the range of Tau suits now, this is sure to be a stunning model - and not for an entirely horrible price. Think about it this way, you're only going to need one or two, it's an officer and it's quite large. Full stop, thanks for coming!
At $125 for the 3 I'm thinking that's not horrible considering the unit size you will be using and their place in your force organisation.
This new kit also comes with the XV8-02 Iridium upgrade for one of your suits (above right in red) which is particularly bulky and comes with a super-sexy curved head.
You know, the one from 2013?
You do? Oh good, because here it is again with a few tweaks!
Yep - its a reissue which is (A) a tad rude but also (B) probably excellent as it will be one of the only new Codex out there with actual real fluff you can read - yes Dark Angels Codex I am looking at you!
There is also a deluxe edition which is pretty...
Great so see Drones being available separately after my recent joy at making one. There's also the Tau Painting Guide which you would hope would be better than some recent ones. The first ones were amazing, but recently have really died off! Tau Datacards are of course also in the mix, with new ones for White Scars and Raven Guard.
Something about that just tickles my fancy!
Also in the way of releases are the new Vior'La Sept Decals and a Phil Kelly Farsight book.
Now White Dwarf - stop taking yourself so seriously - , why wouldn't someone make one of the Battlesuits be giving one of the others bunny ears behind it's head?
This week's is James Karch's amazing Grey Knights force.
Verdict
Now, as far as that goes, it is what it is - BUT the writing isn't that exciting. It's okay. I think as they get to the end of a release and they're actually working on the next thing, then this seems less important. They are however very informative, the parts breakdowns for the battlesuits is very helpful for example!
As far as the issue as a whole, I'd say definitely worth a look..
