Everyone loves a freeby - and when it's in the same week we get a glimpse at probably the most hotly-desired Warhammer 40,000 release since.... well any of the Tactical Boxed Sets.... you know this White Dwarf is going to be very popular! Horus Heresy Betrayal At Calth is the first Horus Heresy boxed set for Games Workshop and instead of being some insipid pile of sub-standard tripe (in days of old that was pretty typical) this one is a beauty! Apart from three other 40K army boxes and a novel (conveniently themed aroung this set) Horus Heresy Betrayal At Calth is the entire issue, so if you're not interested in it... turn away now and head back to the hobby table. I have no argument considering its importance - Hell we had it with Age of Sigmar for about 1,700 years after it was released (does anyone miss those 'roid rage C3POs?) - but just be aware because it's very hard to preview an issue that is wrapped so the free pin stays attached. There is a Word Bearers one on the way too! So, is this issue a must buy or would it be better to use the money on a pot of paint? + + More After The Jump + + |
Having looked through the instruction book (probably the nicest one they have produced to date) and the fluff book (full colour, very Forge World but limited on actual miniature colour scheme detail) and the decal sheet, this really does have some nice elements apart from just the miniatures themselves.
I didn't get to see the tiles, but i'm sure they are your standard Space Hulk style!
Keen-eyed reader, Rob, noticed that Forge World had taken down one of their MKIV sets this morning in response to this awesome release.
The Cataphracti Terminators are also very good - they do seem than their Forge World progenitors.
Don't bother heading over to the GW site to order these BTW, they're not up oddly...
The Ceratus Knight-Atrapos also strides out of the Forge World stable with it's Lascutter and Graviton Singularity Cannon ablaze. This Knight is starting to grow on me...
Next week's White Dwarf will feature a Citadel Paint System poster AND an exclusive new mission for The Horus Heresy release.
Next month's Warhammer Visions will also have the companion piece to this week's Ultramarines pin (above right), a Word Bearers pin!! Will be interesting to see if this raises the Warhammer Visions sales and what other content will be in that issue. One would think they would be pulling out all the stops.
