Chaos Reigns Supreme again this week with Archaon's bovver boys, the Varanguard, making their presence known dominating this week's White Dwarf. But (yes I started a sentence with a 'but') to be fair, although they are the only miniature release this week, the White Dwarf crew actually give us a good insight into the Forces of the Everchosen. From the scale of his undivided Chaos legions to how the Varanguard are organised there is quite a bit of information for those interested in Chaos. Aside from Chaos, there's also a preview of the enormous force of our mate doot which appear in this month's Warhammer Visions, a glimpse of the Forge World Solar Auxilia... dudes with axes - they have a stupid Latin name so that will do. Plus the Everchosen Battletome and importantly a guide of how to read the Horus Heresy novel series from Black Library. That may sound silly, but there are so many (too many) books in many different story lines that this MAY help! + + More After The Jump + + |
~ BTW - how come we never see female Chaos Warriors? ~
This is a sizeable kit, with the three models not only being large and their horses even larger, but there are multiple options in terms of weapons and helmets. Smartly Games Workshop have included items that may point to the rider's previous allegiance - Nurgle, Tzeetch, Khorne etc - but now these guys have only one allegiance; Archaon.
The section on them is well written, quite dramatic and accompanied by some nice but very dark and hard to see pictures.
As I was saying last week, my only issue with these guys is pretty much my issue with all of the new Age of Sigmar stuff - the price - at $56 AUD each model, it's pretty steep! Sure, they are essentially characters, but what crazy person is going to army build these dudes?

One of the nicer additons to the Solar Auxilia ranks are the Solar Auxilia Veletaris Storm Section With Power Axes (good luck getting all that written down on the Xmas list for Santa to put under the tree!).
Stupid name, WAAAAYY too long, but the models are very very nice - certainly a vast improvement on the early lasgun-armed Solar Auxilia...
The first three Horus Heresy novels have been re-released (not sure why) so people who have been living under a rock and check them out.
There's also the Everchosen Painting Guide (which mentions next week's release Gaunt The Summoner) to show you how to get the look of the Legions of Archaon.
The Black Library Digital Shorts get a mention here too, including Blood and Plague, part of the Realmgate Wars series
from the confusion, some of the books draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag on. My God, "Fulgrim" is so slow! Urgh. Anyway, this list (there's five this issue actually) is Part 1 in a pictorial guide to help you through.
