White Dwarf Issue #25 Review

WHite Dwarf is taking a bit of an interesting turn at the moment. Last week they were trumpeting about Storm Claw, and this week - the week of release - there's nothing about in White Dwarf at all!
There is however the re-release of Dark Vengeance, a brand new basing set and the Realm of Battle Sector Imperialis, plus (and wait for this) a Paint Splatter that is actually pretty useful!
There's also a nice article on painting your forces if you don't have much time (puts hand in the air...). 
It's actually a very hobby-focussed edition of WHite Dwarf - so it that's your thing, buclke up and check this out!

The main focus of this issue is Sector Imperialis - the new Realm of Battle board. It's packed full of detail (some of which does seem a bit odd so close together) but as I found out with the Zone Mortalis board - these things take forever to paint! It's your standard 6 x 2x2 and Games Workshop offer a few configurations./ packs to build your city block.

Dark Vengeance gets a re-release next week with the new rule and the same great miniatures.
This really is a nice set! Those Chaos Marines are such a step above the other plastic ones out there. Pity they aren't multi-part.

With the release of the Sector Imperialis comes a new basing kit full of urban goodness, Those base tops do look very nice, but again, like the older basing kits, the resin sits really high above the base - why do they do that?

River Trolls have never personally been my cup of tea, but these beautifully painted examples do make them rather tempting!

Now this article suckered me in for the title; "Great Crusade". I thought - oh someone else is doing Great Crusade-era Marines like my War Hounds. The MKV armour should have been a give away that I was wrong! Never mind!! This is actually quite an inspiring article with some lovely looking minis in it.. How good do they look BTW?

Paint Splatter, as I said earlier is actually quite pertinent (have always wanted to use that word in context) to this issue as it goes over the various textures on the Sector Imperialis board. It also touches on the new basing set.

Designer's Notes rounds it out apart from a few of the smaller articles. It's always good to get into their heads, especially when it's about being practical about designing something, even something as simple as roads onto a board or silo doors where you would put a building on top of. Cool stuff!

Verdict

This is a good issue. It doesn't feel as packed as others, but there's a fair bit here and some really nice photos. That is definitely something that has been improving of late and needed to!
